Late last year the UK Government legalized copying for private use, a practice which many citizens already believed to be legal.
But now several music industry organizations in the UK have won a judicial review which renders the government's decision to allow copying for personal use unlawful. According to the High Court, there's insufficient evidence to prove that the legislation doesn't hurt musicians and the industry at large.

If you buy an electric car or don't take an unnecessary trip in a gasoline powered car, you harm Exxon. If you buy a Whopper or don't super size your meal, you harm McDonald's. If you borrow a book, you harm Barnes & Noble and Amazon, or maybe not, because you might be inspired to buy more books. If that window doesn't get broken, you're harming the window and glass repair business. If you don't consume, you're harming the economy!
If we allow this anti-competitive whopper, we harm ourselves.

More importantly, there's insufficient evidence to prove that copyright doesn't hurt musicians and the industry.
