"Imagine a blue enter key, 7 row classic keyboard, 16:10 aspect ratio screen, multi-color ThinkPad logo, dedicated volume controls, rubberized paint, exposed screws, lots of status LED's, and more", he writes, asking whether this would be the ThinkPad of choice for the design connoisseur, or too old school?

    I've only used a Thinkpad Edge, so I've not experienced a "proper" Thinkpad touchpad (if there's ever been one) but I don't think I've used any touchpad that comes close to Apple's offerings, especially their clickpad.

    I used Powerbooks for years. Apple's build quality is very good, but the clickpad in the last machine I had just made me crazy (hate it with a passion of thousand etc's...). When that machine went belly up, I ending up replacing it (for multiple reasons) with the first Thinkpad I've ever owned, a w530. The keyboard, trackpad, and actual physical mouse buttons have made me happier using this keyboard than than I've been with any previous laptop keyboard. The tactile quality of the touchpads between it and the Powerbook's is very close. I might even give the Apple a slight edge in tactile and it was slightly larger, but the lack of the clickpad monstrosity and having actual physical mouse buttons, three of them!, I'd take this keyboard layout any day over Apple's.
