I'm wondering what Linux distros my fellow soylentils use, and why.

I myself have loved Fedora since version 7, and never cared much for Debian systems. My desktops either run Fedora or a source-built XFCE system. What distros do you use, what architectures, and why do you use them? Are there any distros you wish were still around?

Big desktop is dual boot WinXP and Xubuntu (old hardware and software combo requires I boot XP once in a while). Xubuntu because I like it and it works with less hassle than Mint XFCE (which I also like). I'm too cheap to upgrade that old server to a more recent Windows version.

Little desktop is Xubuntu and Kodi as an HTPC. Ditto - it works and I prefer XFCE.

Win7 laptop with TAILS occasionally. I actually like TAILS; use it in public places where I'm not sure of the WiFi.

DD-WRT on the router because I got fed up with the constant stream of fixes required for the stock firmware.

Android on the phone cause I hate Apple and don't love MS much either. Do you consider Android a Linux distro?

Not linux: IOS 5.1 on first gen iPad with a continuously deteriorating software environment (latest update to an app failed and the app was disabled with no option to re-install - thanks Apple for wasting my money on a product with planned obsolescence). If I ever get another tablet, I hope I can find a decent Xubuntu option.

I hope you've disconnected the hard drive prior to using TAILS.

If you use it as a LiveUSB option in public, tie a long but strong shoestring from your wrist to the usb drive. If someone tries to grab your laptop from you, out pops the USB and TAILS immediately wipes RAM and shuts down.

If you're in a casual location where you're not in the position to have someone rip your laptop away from you, I recommend using TAILS (again, with no HDD connected!) on a LiveDVD. This way, no matter what happens, nothing is writing to a medium, it's a read only DVD and the best solution IMO.

Also, please Google (or Startpage/DDG) for "Tor OPSEC". One page is Schneier's site with excellent comments, another is a decent but old article on Cryptome.

Yeah ... quite a shame DreadPirateRoberts didn't have something like that set up :(
