I'm wondering what Linux distros my fellow soylentils use, and why.

I myself have loved Fedora since version 7, and never cared much for Debian systems. My desktops either run Fedora or a source-built XFCE system. What distros do you use, what architectures, and why do you use them? Are there any distros you wish were still around?

I use Debian, because I'm a Debian Developer. And I'm glad it's around.

Desktop? fluxbox. It's quick and functional. GNOME became dead to me years ago when alt-tabbing became very slow.

You should try it again. I've installed Debian 8 with Gnome 3.14, and I'm quite satisfied with my setup. Alt-tab is pretty much instantaneous, and workspace switching as well.

Perhaps, but fluxbox is vastly superior in my usecase. I can move and drag windows around without trying to zero in on the border. I can launch applications with easily configurable shortcuts. It's very low overhead too. And I absolutely loath the "new" Gnome UI to the point where I had to uninstall `evince` and go with `qpdfview` instead.

But as you can see, the beauty of Debian is that there is no GNOME Debian or KDE Debian or whatever. You can install any desktop you like. :D

Well then please accept a personal thank you from me -- I've used Debian on my desktop for years (although I like gnome, just not the default settings).

I use Debian, I'm glad it's around too. Thank you for contributing.

Personal: Debian on a ton of random ARM SBCs and on my netbook. E17 on the netbook with a custom, easy on the eyes, bling free, light theme. everything else is headless. Started using linux with Slackware in '93. So, I have some Slack love too, but haven't used it in years.

Work: mostly Debian, but some Redhat where vendors require their stuff run on RH, otherwise we avoid. Commercial UNIX too (various).

Systemd pinnned to -1 on all Debian (both at home and work) after some "fun times" after the stealth "upgrade" to systemd on some boxes running testing. Not forced to use RH 7 (mandatory systemd) yet. Probably inevitable that we will have to switch at some point, but maybe things will be a little less broken by the time Stretch goes stable.
