I'm wondering what Linux distros my fellow soylentils use, and why.

I myself have loved Fedora since version 7, and never cared much for Debian systems. My desktops either run Fedora or a source-built XFCE system. What distros do you use, what architectures, and why do you use them? Are there any distros you wish were still around?

I also run 14.10 on a computer that's been away for repairs for SIX MONTHS. (Damage to the PCIE slot, sent away for repairs, came back not working, returned to shop, assface at the shop forgot to send it away, now it's outside of warranty and he's fucking around with what he's going to do next. Angry.)

Anyway, I upgraded to 15.04 a couple of weeks after it came out. About a month back, I had problems where the desktop started freezing up (I've narrowed the problem down to kwin, as restarting it appears to fix the problem, although I can't restart the plasma task bar for some reason) so I really don't recommend Kubuntu 15.04. It's not just my hardware, I've read reports that this problem occurs not only in upgrades, but also in clean installs.

    So yeah, Kubuntu.

I run Kubuntu as well, on a desktopand a laptop. Track the LTS releases.

I also have some unknown version of windows running in a window where it belongs; but I really only use it as an authentication layer to make ESPN's flash player work.

Right, I thought I'd post the solution to my problem. I'm replying to myself because it's easy to do.

Short version, all my lock-up troubles went away after I deleted .cache, which is apparently a known bug - I hadn't come across any references to it. To be truthful, though, I also deleted all kde, plasma, and Trolltech files stored in .config. Lost all my settings, but that's fine if the freezes have gone forever.

Just putting this here in case someone else has the same problem and is looking for a possible solution. Hope I can help someone else.

Gotta go, my greyhound is barking in his sleep.
