I'm wondering what Linux distros my fellow soylentils use, and why.

I myself have loved Fedora since version 7, and never cared much for Debian systems. My desktops either run Fedora or a source-built XFCE system. What distros do you use, what architectures, and why do you use them? Are there any distros you wish were still around?

I'm one of those who hated Unity, but it grew on me as they improved it. Ubuntu really is less of a headache. When I was younger, I loved tinkering, customizing, and fixing linux problems. Now that I'm grown and working my ass off, and keeping a family fed and happy, I have less time for that. I do still have to compile my own software from time to time, however. Linux has to "just work" most of the time. Ubuntu works consistently out of the box, it stays up to date and upgrades are not difficult.

Same here. I've learned a lot from fixing broken Linux distros, either broken out of the box or borked by me, but these days I just want to go about my business and not need to fiddle with drivers and such. At work I run stock Ubuntu 15.04 on a System76 Meerkat, so it's guaranteed to work out of the box. I would definitely recommend System76 as an OEM; I've enjoyed every aspect of the experience of buying from them.
