I'm wondering what Linux distros my fellow soylentils use, and why.

I myself have loved Fedora since version 7, and never cared much for Debian systems. My desktops either run Fedora or a source-built XFCE system. What distros do you use, what architectures, and why do you use them? Are there any distros you wish were still around?

While I am mostly still a Windows 7 user because of work, I have done a lot of distro hoping over the years.

I have run one of the last Red Hat distros before they turned over to Fedora Core.

Tried Debian but wasn't really happy with it then stayed mainly on Fedora for a few releases and tried other odd flavors.

I recall one distro called sorcerer linux I tried. I liked the concept but the compilation times and problems showed it wasn't ready at that time (2004(?)).

I eventually tried Ubuntu and loved it for a while but kept heading back to Windows because I was dual booting and gaming was always bringing me back to Windows at the time.

Then I tried Arch Linux and loved the concept because to me it was a bit like Sorcerer except no time lost compiling programs and it was always the latest versions which was something I would end up deploring about other distros which was forcing me to upgrade to the latest releases of their distros to get the newer versions of the packages from their repo. I think this was the thing that bothers me the most of distros, the need to hop every 6 months to get the latest goodies.

I eventually settled on Antergos for a laptop I have but sometimes want to give Manjaro another go.

Would I exclude trying distros that aren't Arch based? No really. For servers I would probably prefer Cent OS or Slackware. For production usage on a desktop, I might prefer Fedora but in my view, Arch based are the best for home desktop users who aren't scared by the command prompt.

That's what I love about today's "Rolling Release" distros. apt-get dist-upgrade I guess Sabayon was my first exposure to rolling releases, but now we have the same thing in the Debian world.
