The New York Stock Exchange unexpectedly shut down trading in all of its listed stocks Wednesday morning.

The exchange said on Twitter: "The issue we are experiencing is an internal technical issue and is not the result of a cyber breach."

A trader on the floor of the exchange in lower Manhattan, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said that after the suspension began, traders were told that the problem was related to updated software that was rolled out before markets opened Wednesday.

Trading was resumed around 3:00 PM after having been down since 11:30 AM.

Well, I had this mega burrito in the morning, and had to go, with all the beans and everything. Man, it was a whopper. As it happens to us all sometimes, the toilet couldn't handle it. Things got jammed, the toilet got flooded, and the flood spread to the trading floor, and ... well you can see how it went from there.

    Shit happens. My bad

CSB time. When I was in college in the 80s one of my comp sci profs told a story about troubleshooting a mainframe that would randomly reboot a couple times a day. After a week or so the problem was traced to a toilet. The electrical bundle ran under the toilet, and the floor was weakened. Whenever somebody above a certain weight sat on the toilet it futzed with the mainframe's power supply and the machine rebooted.
