The Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, Time and several other news sources are reporting that Ellen Pao is resigning as CEO of Reddit. Pao will be replaced by Steve Huffman, a Reddit co-founder and its first CEO.

Pao has had a stormy and controversial stint as interim chief executive officer of Reddit which culminated in a mass user protest in recent weeks, as previously reported on SN.

    P.S.

    This isn't "Breaking News"

That moniker should be reserved for things which are acutally, genuinely newsworthy, IMHO...

I'd argue that the resignation of an extremely controversial CEO of one of the, if not THE largest internet forum is a pretty big deal in our little world.

I argue exactly the opposite. Reddit is a cesspool, the sooner it implodes the better.
Seriously, how can this possibly matter?

Considering that SN is going to emulate Reddit's primary functionality [soylentnews.org] it seems rather spot on.

Building on top of slashcode? Oh dear. Well, best of luck :D

Might be cool to see where this leads, as long as we don't get dubious subforums like creepshots and jailbait.

The deposition of a dictatorial CEO who was stifling internet freedom in the name of "Safe spaces" and "political correctness" is a boon to anybody concerned with Free speech on the Internet.
A win for Internet freedom is a win for the technology industry and global information sharing as a whole.

Doesn't make it "breaking news." Breaking News is for important stuff that is going on right now, and is fluid such that details can and will change as the day goes on that you need to "stay tuned" to see how the story develops. Did anyone expect that after her resignation was announced that anything else would happen?

It's funny, but there was an AC asking that same question in the last thread about Reddit. Even using the term "meaningless attach phrase".

But ... I'm guessing that was a different AC though, because I answered the question in that thread.

Maybe you could go back and read that answer?
