The Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, Time and several other news sources are reporting that Ellen Pao is resigning as CEO of Reddit. Pao will be replaced by Steve Huffman, a Reddit co-founder and its first CEO.

Pao has had a stormy and controversial stint as interim chief executive officer of Reddit which culminated in a mass user protest in recent weeks, as previously reported on SN.

I have to admit, I feel like a lot of the "iron fist" stuff seems weirdly exaggerated. She said it's bad to be shitty to fat people, and then she had the audacity to think that a CEO has the authority to fire people under them without consulting with random people outside the business. I mean, maybe I'd hate her if I met her in person. Dunno. But as a reddit user, nothing she did ever seemed like that big of a deal. Oh no, there wasn't specifically a reddit AMA coordinator on staff for a few days while they backfilled a position. END OF THE FUCKING WORLD!!!! Meh. Firing somebody always results in a bit of a disruption.

What happened here was the same old story of poor communication, mismanagement, and out of touch leadership. It isn't just Pao who is at fault in the issues at Reddit, but she is taking the heat for it because the backlash happened in public and the board needs someone to take the blame. Plus she was kinda unpopular to begin with. Had all this happened behind closed doors (like in most other companies) then she would still have her job. However this played out in front of everyone.
