from the sharing-criticism dept.

CNET, Business Insider, techcrunch and many others report on Hillary's beef with "on-demand/gig economy". Specifically:

"Many Americans are making extra money renting out a small room, designing websites, selling products they design themselves at home, or even driving their own car," Clinton said during a speech at the New School in New York City. "This on-demand, or so-called 'gig economy,' is creating exciting opportunities and unleashing innovation. But it's also raising hard questions about workplace protections and what a good job will look like in the future."

"Fair pay and fair scheduling, paid family leave and earned sick days, child care are essential to our competitiveness and growth," the former secretary of state said, referring to benefits not accorded to independent contractors such as drivers at Uber.

Meanwhile, others are quick to point that her "main super PAC decisively favored Uber over conventional cabs by a 25:1 margin" (doh, she didn't say Uber is bad, only that it is evil toward its empl... err... contractors) and Rand Paul tweets: "America shouldn't take advice on the sharing economy from someone who has been driven around in a limo for 30 years." (yeah, Dr Paul, zillions of male gynecologists were never pregnant, of course they know nothing about giving birth).

Not that I completely disagree with the submitter's inline comments on the story, but shouldn't those be handled as....comments to the story? It seems like the summary should be just that: a summary, rather than a pulpit to explicitly support a particular viewpoint.

I personally don't like throwing zingers in the summary, but we've never not allowed it.

I think peeps hate it more when "Micro$oft" is written into the summary.

Those were so obvious that if the summary didn't include them there would have been at least one post making the exact same points. Of course we get people complaining about them instead. Can't win.

At least the comments can be modded. Not so the comments in the summary.

What is not forbidden is permitted? Besides, if we did not know the submitter's political take on the topic, how could we possibly even respond? You have seen this yourself, takyon, with the metals of no particular political importance.

I think peeps hate it more when "Micro$oft" is written into the summary.

I think you have confused "peeps" with "shills". There is a difference. It involves money.

    1. I wanted to include some reactions. So I searched for them, found some, included them - and couldn't find others at the moment I posted.
I don't think you see the inclusion of them into "undesirable editorialization" or do you?
    2. I'm always reacting with distrust at anything that comes from politicians thus I'm trying to find the fault in what they are saying.
Now, those which I included were so fallacious that I couldn't abstain... mea culpa, my apologies, I'll try harder next time to suppress my impulses

rather than a pulpit to explicitly support a particular viewpoint.

(oh, gosh, I can't let it go).
In this case, it is absolutely false that I support Hillary's position: I feel it's highly hypocritical**

But... how it is my fault that was the best her opponents could come with?

    ---

** I might be wrong, but I don't think I am; you see, I reckon you can't get to a position of Secretary of State if you aren't an un-empathetic, cold and calculated bastard/bitch - by the very nature of the job, one needs to deal with "the nation" not "the people".

If she was so concerned about the welfare of US working people, why the hell did she stop at "gig economy" - come on, it's not the most significant (alleged) employer to put a pressure on US labour force; why would one think that, by attacking Uber, she must be "on the side of the working people" in general?
