The BBC are reporting that troubled community website Reddit has lost another female member of its senior team with the resignation of chief engineer Bethanye Blount, only days after the resignation of Ellen Pao. The BBC report continues:

Ms Blount told website Recode she believed Ms Pao had been put on a "glass cliff" - or set up to fail. Victoria Taylor, who oversaw a popular question-and-answer section of the site, was sacked last month.

"Victoria wasn't on a glass cliff. But it's hard for me to see it any other way than Ellen was," Bethanye Blount said in an interview.

But Ms Blount, a former Facebook employee, added that her own decision to leave Reddit just two months after joining, had not been based on gender issues. And new chief executive, Steve Huffman, said he was "confident" that the site could recruit female executives.

The phrase "glass cliff" is used to describe women placed in leadership roles during times of crisis, when positive change is hard to achieve.

[...]

Despite the ongoing turmoil, Reddit is in good financial shape, according to Mr Huffman, also one of its co-founders.

"Reddit has a lot of cash," he said, in an Ask Me Anything session on the site.. "Monetisation isn't a short-term concern of ours."

The site currently attracts 164 million monthly users.

I'm impressed. Every post and response is moderated troll in a blanket manner, as if one person just down modded each one in turn. Granted many at this time are so painfully socially morose it is a wonder what sort of mind created them and decided to share that thought with the world.

This whole thing is in bad taste. It should not matter what sex someone is when they are hired nor when they fail. This article has highlighted both.

I wonder if my post will be moderated troll too.

    It should not matter...

    It does, tho.

Much has been made, first and foremost by the women and women's movements, since the victorian age to present to overcome the longstanding dicrimination, but we're still not there yet. And it's not gonna go away because we don't believe it, or wish it was different.

It's not even a *legal* issue per se.

Whatever women's movements have fought for, in this case it certainly does not exist. Women being sought out intentionally, as if they can not do for themselves, then when one fails to the peter principle it is not her fault but yet another patriarchal plot.

Believe it or not women can be adults that are responsible for their own lives. Any person that has to work for a living will inevitably face in justices. It is not right to take away women's successes and failures in the name of equality too. Let them take risks, keep their glory and their failures as individuals just as men do.

Nope, don't see it. No blanket. And one modder is limited to five mods per day, and these would be countered by more reasonable Soylentils, which obviously are not you, my dear AC. So yes, we will have to mod you down, not just as a troll, but as a "concern troll", and even worse, as a "concerned about trolling troll". You see, it is the recursiveness that makes it really burn, particularly if you use GNU software.

Because there's no such thing as sockpuppets. No true Soylentil would ever have multiple accounts just burn on their hot-button issue story to mod down everything they disagree with and mod up everything they agree with.
