Dell contradicts Microsoft, says Windows 10 will be installed on PCs starting July 29. It turns out Windows 10 will be installed on PCs from four major manufacturers.

Dell Inc. CEO Michael Dell said on Twitter that he expects Windows 10 to ship on new Dell PCs on July 29, contradicting a statement made yesterday by Microsoft.

Microsoft, which is still testing the highly anticipated operating system, said consumers would have to work with their local retailers to upgrade to Windows 10 after purchasing their new devices, in a blog post.

This means that all new units, such as the Dell XPS 15, on which Microsoft demoed Windows 10 during Computex, would not come with Windows 10 preinstalled, but rather users would have to upgrade at retail locations.

After some confusion regarding what was actually going to happen, Microsoft announced:

[...] Dell, HP, Lenovo, and Acer will begin shipping PCs on July 29 with Windows 10 preinstalled, Microsoft told Bloomberg.

Yusuf Mehdi, Vice President of Windows and Device Marketing, was mistaken when he wrote in a blog post that PCs shipping on July 29 would not have the new operating system preinstalled.

I wouldn't have a problem with that if they had to give out installation media that would work without installing that crapware again. Generally, I use my activation key and download a copy of the ISO from MS and just plan on doing a reinstall pretty much immediately because of that.

On a related note, fuck OEMs that don't feel like they need to provide a copy of the installation media. I tried creating one for my Lenovo laptop a few years ago only to learn that the disc is worthless if you don't do at least one backup with it. I'm not even sure why I should have to do one backup when the program didn't ask me to.

Lenovo is douchebag pricks man, I warn customers away from them because of shit like that. I've found most of the OEM keys will work with a standard Windows disc and the few that don't will be fine once you talk to MSFT by phone. The guys MSFT hires to work the helpdesk don't want to make waves so all you have to do is read the key off the side of the unit and they'll give you a working key, pretty hassle free. As far as the trialware goes? Some swear by PC Decrappifier but I prefer Revo Uninstaller Free, you can grab the silent install at Ninite [ninite.com] and its better than Decrappifier at removing all the reg crap and leftover garbage from trialware.

Here is the easy way to do it and how I take care of it at the shop when someone brings in a new system without discs and tell me to blow out the crap...1.- install Revo from Ninite and remove the crap, 2.- Install any programs you DO want, 3.- Use Paragon Backup & Recovery Free to make a disc image with bootable recovery media. With Paragon if you want you can even make a hidden backup capsule which will work like a recovery partition so if you have a problem just restore from the capsule and voila! Right back to the state you had saved in the capsule. of course I always put their pics and docs on a separate partition so they don't lose anything if they need to restore, why in 2015 OEMs don't have that set as default fuck if I know, but with thios little 3 step you too can say "fuck recovery partitions full of crapware" and have your system the way YOU want easy peasy.

True, but they're not quite as bad as Sony. I bought a VAIO some years back, a PCG-GRX560, IIRC. Anyways, upon first boot it would be almost completely non-responsive because PC-Cillin was taking up 99% of the run time on the processor and it would get installed every time I did a reinstall of the OS.

I think eventually I just used one of the other discs I had for Windows to install it and that worked fine, but selling a computer that's just about completely locked up the moment that a customers turns it on is a really bad way to inspire them to buy another one. At least with the lenovo I had, it did function properly, even if there was that stupid media problem.

Thankfully it had 7 installed and I was able to download a legitimate ISO from MS' own site to install with. Unfortunately, I had to do some other stuff to get it to work as the laptop didn't have an optical drive. Something that's mandatory for using the software to create installation media.
