Gizmag has published a 2015 smartwatch comparison guide for those planning to acquire another NSA-tracking collar mobile device:

Before we jump in, these are the six watches we chose as the best available right now, which you'll see lined up (in two rows) throughout this comparison:

  • Motorola Moto 360

  • Apple Watch

  • LG Watch Urbane

  • Samsung Gear S

  • Pebble Time

  • Asus ZenWatch

During my recent visit to an Apple Store in Long Island, a grand total of 1 person was looking at the long row of Apple Watches while the iPhone table was mobbed.

Not a bad review. I have a Moto360 and like it quite a lot, but I actually miss my original Pebble to a degree. The Android Wear watches are better for notifications, have voice commands (handy on occasion), and have a much nicer looking screen. What I miss from the pebble is the always on screen, and the hardware buttons. I use my watch for controlling the music on my headphones at work, and having buttons to adjust volume or skip a track quickly is a great feature, and doesn't take me "out of the zone" as much.

The friend I gave my Pebble to figured he wouldn't like it, but after trying it for a couple of days is using it constantly. I found it a nice looking watch as well, especially with a nice leather band on it. The new Pebble not so much, although the other improvements are attractive.

Overall, the Apple watch does not fare very well in that review. The Samsung Gear looks pretty good, but they've "pulled and Apple" and locked it to Samsung phones which restricts its usefulness. One of the nice things about Android is the multiple available manufacturers, and buying hardware that locks you to a specific manufacturer pretty much kills that.

The Moto360 is nice. Not perfect, but quite usable, nice looking, and very well priced, I think.

Do you wear watches prior to a smart watch? I'm curious. I'm an avid WIS and techie, I have lots of cool devices, yet I can't see me going to a smart watch replacing my quartz or automatic watch collection. Not only do they not look anyway as good as my watches, the concept of having to constantly worry about power capacity or plan my watch wearing time so that the charging coincides with my downtime feels very constricting. That and not having WR.

I'm sure they'll get there someday, but not today.

I actually have a bunch of nice-ish watches. Because I like my tech watches so much I've taken to wearing my mechanical watches on my left wrist and my tech watch on my right. I probably look like a dork, but I'm okay with that. Watches are basically jewellery for men at this point, but I really feel lost without my Moto360 (formerly my Pebble). The funny part is that I've seen a couple of other people do the same thing.

I should also add that my phone always runs out of power before my watch. I have no problem getting through a long day of fairly heavy use with my Moto360. My phone, not so much.

I have both the new and old pebble; I have had the original since it the kickstarter; and the pebble time since it arrived a month ago.

The new one is much nicer on the wrist; has a better diaplay and the glass front feels much more premium. The battery life is about the same as far as I can tell around 7 - 8 days.

I like the charger on the original pebble better then the new one; but with the potential of smart bands I will say that the new pebble is better over all.....only if the smart bands materalise.

One thing with the new pebble is the glass is more reflective then the old plastic; making it harder to read in bright light if the watch is tilted this is mainly an issue when something coloured is on the screen.

Thanks! I was really tempted to get one. The biggest thing holding me back was probably the looks.

looks are purely subjective.....having said that. I loved the look of the old one; nerd chic' people would comment on it; very bold looking; much more of a mans watch then a womans/girls watch. The new one looks better in the fact that it is more refined and elegant; however it still has the bold nerd chic' look. It looks much more of a both girl/guy nerd watch now.

I have the grey one and my partner has the red one which looks fine on her. If you are a form over function kind of person then I would say it is not for you as the pebble is still a function over form kinda device....which is why I like the look of it. If the next pebble doesn't follow bold geeky look then I don't think I would get it.
