Thync is a consumer product. And that's exactly how we're reviewing it – much like we would a new iPhone or laptop. We share our experience and make our recommendations, but we aren't writing any research papers or conducting any double-blind studies on it (though the company does link to some of those on its website).

After using Thync every day for the last week and a half, I'm convinced that it's one of the most exciting new tech products of 2015. Like taking a hit of Mary Jane, it can push me from an anxious, over-thinking mood to one where I'm cool, collected and laid-back like a THC-infused Rastafarian. And if I'm feeling sluggish or unmotivated, Thync can also peel that layer away, like the sun burning a morning fog off of my consciousness.

I heard about the brain-mod crowd a couple years ago at the New York Maker's Faire. A team from DARPA gave a talk on an electro-stimulation cap they said was meant to fight Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) in veterans. This seems to follow. Has anyone from Soylent experimented with trans-cranial electro-stimulation?

    Interesting....about the GSR meter...

From what I can tell, the "E-meter" so touted by the Church of $cientology is the same thing used for the same purpose.

Unfortunately, I still act like a drama queen all too often. Throw fits occasionally too.

Almost guaranteed if I am being required to do something that is not in my nature to do.

Yeah, that almost scared me off of it! But there are a lot of professional and scientific anger management protocols out there that are using various forms of "biofeedback" including e-meters, so I see it as like hypnosis: used by lots of crackpots for dubious purposes, but also quite useful if understood and used scientifically.

One of the things I had to learn along the way was not to sacrifice so much. By sacrificing I was setting myself up for resentment. Since I notice that you quote Scripture in your signature, I'll quote you II Corinthians 2:9: "Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver." A lot of people have been taught that they ought to be "giving till it hurts," whether that means giving money, time, resources, or effort, but in truth if your giving is something you are so reluctant about that you will resent, it would be better to conclude that you are not called to give that particular thing and politely decline, and find the things that you are in fact cheerful about giving and give those vigorously. Then you feel a lot better, you are still doing good, and people don't think of you as an angry and unreasonable guy. Some of the most generous people in the world are some of the ones with the worst angry outbursts.
