In addition to a another TPP dossier, WikiLeaks has released a set of documents detailing NSA targets in the Japanese government and in influential Japanese companies:
The list indicates that NSA spying on Japanese conglomerates, government officials, ministries and senior advisers extends back at least as far as the first administration of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, which lasted from September 2006 until September 2007. The telephone interception target list includes the switchboard for the Japanese Cabinet Office; the executive secretary to the Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga; a line described as "Government VIP Line"; numerous officials within the Japanese Central Bank, including Governor Haruhiko Kuroda; the home phone number of at least one Central Bank official; numerous numbers within the Japanese Finance Ministry; the Japanese Minister for Economy, Trade and Industry Yoichi Miyazawa; the Natural Gas Division of Mitsubishi; and the Petroleum Division of Mitsui.
Today's publication also contains NSA reports from intercepts of senior Japanese government officials. Four of the reports are classified TOP SECRET. One of the reports is marked "REL TO USA, AUS, CAN, GBR, NZL", meaning it has been formally authorised to be released to the United States' "Five Eyes" intelligence partners: Australia, Canada, Great Britain and New Zealand.

if wikileaks were a country i bet the USA would have declared war and bombed it into oblivion
i bet the navy is being slapped for inventing tor, which has pretty much opened up the floodgates for whistleblowers
these leaks are killing the USA diplomatically. it will be interesting to see how the US government attempts to repair relations with countries like japan, germany, etc

i think your long-term far too short. consider 100 years as the long-term and you may see that it's the bad behavior that is being exposed to sunlight. i think as a result future generations will be inclined to not be such terrible people. then again a disruptive technology should fundamentally alter societal organizational systems by bringing total independence to the individual in which case all of this is for naught.

I meant the spying, actually. I think it's damaged US businesses, especially *tech* businesses. I think it will continue and worsen quite a lot.

I bet Tor isn't used anymore by any serious whistleblower - too many exit nodes under the US control.
Snowden showed sneakernet may be more effective.

The targeted governments give lip service to outrage and then pass laws to allow their own three letter agency to do exactly the same as they realize how far they've fallen behind in the spying game.
Naturally they'd prefer that they not be tapped. I wouldn't be surprised if the (n)eyes gets expanded soon, (n+x)eyes.
