El Reg reports Brassiere belays boob-bound bullet, begetting bruised breastbone

[A] woman, who was cycling through Germany's least densely populated state of Mecklenberg-Western Pomerania, was saved by the wire lining of her bra, reported Germany's Gadebusch-Rehnaer Zeitung.

[A] couple had chosen to cycle across a field between the towns of Gadebusch and Kochelstor in Germany, when they unwittingly entered a conflict between man and beast.

Feeling a sudden pain in her chest, and glancing thither, she noted that she'd been struck by a rebounded shot and was saved only by the underwire of her brassiere, leaving her with but a bruise.

The minimalist technology involved surprised me. I expected something much more exotic.

Way ahead of you, AC. Against archers, Amazons have traditionally relied on their agility to dodge or catch the missiles.

I would, however, not recommend relying on an underwire bra for proper protection against gunfire. Not only are they uncomfortable as hell, but I mean, damn, the probability that one gets 3rd degree burns under one's boobs due to lightning strike is almost the probability that that uncomfortable wire will stop gunfire!

All is not lost! Traditionally, Amazon tunics were designed to provide a sports bra effect. However, for the modern Amazon woman, I recommend a Reebok Kevlar Crossfit Bra [reebok.com]! I haven't tried one myself, but I can only assume the Kevlar fabric will have an effect similar to Batman's costume, protecting your boobs from fire and gunshot alike!

Isn't there some story that Amazons removed one or both of their breasts because A) it got in the way of a bow's draw string and B) having removed one, it unbalanced them so they removed the other too.

    I'm sorry I don't have a citation on this.

Thanks for this! I've done some archery in the past and there are plenty of girls and women who take part. They often wear a leather guard like that used on the inside of the arm, so it's no great stretch of the imagination that historical Amazon women could have done the same.
