Founder of Wikipedia Jimmy "Jimbo" Wales is now the Committee Chairman for Lawrence Lessig's campaign to become the Democratic nominee for President of the United States:

"Larry's run for President is different," said Wales, who founded the free-access, free-content encyclopedia in the early 2000s. "He's crowdfunding his campaign instead of seeking out rich donors. He's showing people that we can change the rigged political system."

Both long-time supporters of Internet freedom, Wales and Lessig have stood side by side on previous issues, most notably in opposing the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) in 2012. Wales' day-long Wikipedia blackout protesting SOPA influenced other major Internet players to follow suit and is credited with helping to sink the legislation.

"I'm deeply grateful for Jimmy's support," said Lessig. "We both believe in the power of the people to push back against special interests. He's a valuable player in this fight to end the corrupting role of money in politics once and for all."

"The Internet community came together to fight back against SOPA and we were successful." Wales said. "Now we're behind Lessig to fight for citizen equality. When you light up the Internet, anything is possible."

I just find it funny how when specific people receive any kind of negative attention it is automatically Gamergates fault but when shit's flying the other way it's all third party trolls and false flags.

This "sad" group has cost Gawker around seven figures by their own admission. Not bad, aye?

    Also 4/10, Apply yourself.

Dunno about that, I don't pay attention to gamergate until one of you guys post something silly enough on soylent that I am prompted to check google to see if it really is as sad as it sounds, but in this case the culprits identified themselves.

Actually, pretty damn bad. It is sad that your best accomplishment is bragging about how badly you've hurt someone. But it is also sad that you have to spin, "we've lost thousands of dollars already, and could potentially lose thousands more, if not millions." [gawker.com] into a claim of actual seven figure losses. All you sad puppies were able to do was get a couple of companies to "briefly pause their ads on an ad network" - which means those slots were filled in by other advertisers. When your best job of doing your worst is chump change, that's even sadder than being effective at hurting someone.

In the meantime you've elevated the people you hate into the limelight furthering their careers 100x more than they could have themselves, sarkessian or whatever her name is, is famous now - new york times article, rolling stone article, Time 100 list, partnership with Intel. Your efforts have been stunningly counter-productive. If that ain't sad, I don't know what is.

    Also 4/10, Apply yourself.

Sorry, I have no idea what that means.

You're right about third party trolls claiming responsibility for the bomb threats, I just find it amusing that no one can seem to admit that it goes the other way too. Brianna Wu got caught doing it to herself when she forgot to log out of her Steam developer account and no one cares.

I'd first like to point out the fact that Gawker is not a someone to be hurt but rather a unethical rag that has no issues with destroying other peoples lives. The point I was trying to make was not about hurting people. Gamergate is a consumer revolt against unethical journalism that has constantly been derided and labelled things such as small and sad, yet we have had the power to influence companies far bigger than us. Yeah, they got replaced but it cost them money and the result? They all have ethics policies and are actively disclosing conflicts of interest.

As for the amount of costs I may have fucked up on that one.

The thing is I don't particularly hate them. I may think that the fact Quinn and Randy are running around claiming to run anti harrassment organisations is absurd but my beef has been with the journalists pushing shit games on behalf of their friends and then attacking their audience when called out on it. Anita's star was rising long before Gamergate and it's not surprising if you remember Jack Thompson. The MSM loves to pick up any issue that portray's gamers in a poor light but now it's sexism instead of violence.

The 4/10 comment was because I thought you were trolling. I take that back because I think you are arguing in good faith, even if somewhat aggressively.

When you throw a number out that is THREE ORDERS OF MAGNITUDE OFF, that's not an "oops, I got the number a little wrong." That's an "ok, I really don't know shit about the topic" statement.

I'm not sure who you consider to be run by moonies but you can take your pick of the articles from google then. I may have gotten who printed it wrong but the phrase "seven figures" from a senior Gawker figure has been definitely been put out around the net.

I like the way that you picked an article from almost a year ago. That doesn't seem dishonest at all.
