An Ars update:

Update (Aug. 18): Microsoft has announced through Major Nelson's blog that the previously hidden "very high quality" 1080p streaming feature will officially launch through an Xbox app update rolling out today. Our own tests found the new setting greatly improves the streaming experience, provided you have an in-home Internet setup that can handle it. The app update also includes some interface improvements that make it easier to interact with friends and add outside games to the app.

Previously:

Reddit user OomaThurman has publicized the method for unlocking this hidden quality setting, which involves editing the "userconsoledata" file in your Xbox app folder.

Cutscenes. So high quality you won't even notice that there isn't any gameplay anymore. Unlock achievements by watching all the same games as your fair-weather friends. As soon as you play a game that isn't on this season's trendiness list, you can be sure your friends will dump you. Keep watching those cutscenes, I mean games. Yeah. Games.

Hollywood and the game industry have the same problem: when you spend that many millions just to make something beautiful, you don't want to risk it all just to add substance.
Something original could easily tank, so you make sequels and reuse the proven ideas.

I just re-played a few RTS from 17 and 10 years ago (ish: TotalA and SupCom1/2), and if they came up with AI improvements, I'm not sure I'd need another RTS ever. I'd actually buy a good AI DLC.

Video games are too similar to movies these days, and have you seen TV lately? Killjoys is like a prequel to Firefly, Dark Matter is like a sequel to Stargate SG-1, and Lucifier is exactly like Angel except he's literally Satan instead of a vampire. I could try books, but the last time I read a book, it contained a preface in which the author whined at length about the difficulties of getting a book published. That does it. I'm going back to board games.
