[translation mine] You often find yourself on the road, stuck behind a Semi... it's a two-lane highway and the truck rolls gently between sequences of bends and almost zero visibilty in front of the truck, and trying a quick pass can rapidly turn into a real nightmare.

With its concept, Samsung wants to help us forget this problem and reduce the risks associated with passing trucks. The world's first manufacturer of LCD screens has placed a camera in front of the truck. The camera directly displays the image of the road ahead on the giant screen positioned on the rear doors of the trailer, quite visible to the drivers who are following the truck.

It's a good idea that would also be welcome on the backs of Winnebagos.

All it takes is for the onboard computer to crash in such a way as an image remains on the rear screen that does not reflect what is currently in front of the truck.

Apparently the samsung guys have not been near a real used truck in awhile.

Lets just say 'lightly used' is not something in the parlance of truck drivers.

Those bad boys are abused. You are lucky sometimes if the pigtails are in good condition and that is on a 'good' fleet where they take care of their stuff. Then getting power all the way to the back doors and a data feed? Good luck with that working for more than a few months. On the products I used to work on we had a simple 485 wire much less something like an hdmi cable. It was amazing how many times it broke.

Also how much will this system weigh? More weight is not something companies want to add to their trucks. That is less load they can charge someone else for.

Neat idea. But will not hold up under real use.

I was thinking it'd be used for advertisements, not actually showing what's in front of the truck...
