"Just FYI, it appears there is a bug in wget while using a proxy that allows wget to be forced to use the FTP port and thereby unmask the user's IP (normal usage) or at least leak the user's network adapter IP (in TAILS)."

When wget was written and FTP was popular we didn't live in a dystopia and didn't need to hide our IP. Oh how the times have changed...

Actually you don't need to hide your IP now either. You can choose to reject the dystopia and live your life with the expectation of freedom.

    There's an XKCD for this: http://xkcd.com/137/ [xkcd.com]

Of course, XKCD is written by a hypocritical asshole who doesn't have to worry about what anyone thinks of him because he's already rich and famous and has a loyal fanbase of rabid apologists.

And why should I need any more anonymity than I already have? Why is it that I can't simply expect the operators of the servers which I contact to exercise some degree of discretion and common decency? Why can't we all get along without spying on and stalking each other all the time?

No, I do not care enough to start a hate site. You must be a loyal XKCD reader since your puny mind cannot comprehend that there is more than one person who happens to hate XKCD. Speaking of hate, have you seen how smugly hateful the latest comic is? This is truly condescending and an insult to the reader.

You really shouldn't get so mad just because you aren't smart enough to get his jokes. Copying and pasting from Google searches has carried you this far, and you've duped your co-workers into thinking that you know what you're talking about, but when someone makes a clever Unix joke you laugh (although a bit embarrassingly too loud), but you try to hide the shame you feel because you know that you'll never be more than the script kiddie you are.
