And why should I need any more anonymity than I already have? Why is it that I can't simply expect the operators of the servers which I contact to exercise some degree of discretion and common decency? Why can't we all get along without spying on and stalking each other all the time?

Power and money. But I say that privacy and anonymity are good things in and of themselves. Even if no malicious people existed, I would still desire them.
