When others get off the train to finally go home, Leonie Müller stays behind. That's because she already is home: The train is her apartment, and she says she likes it that way.

The German college student gave up her apartment in spring. "It all started with a dispute I had with my landlord," Müller told The Washington Post via e-mail. "I instantly decided I didn't want to live there anymore — and then I realized: Actually, I didn't want to live anywhere anymore."

Instead, she bought a subscription that allows her to board every train in the country for free. Now, Müller washes her hair in the train bathroom and writes her college papers while traveling at a speed of up to 190 mph. She says that she enjoys the liberty she has experienced since she gave up her apartment. "I really feel at home on trains, and can visit so many more friends and cities. It's like being on vacation all the time," Müller said.

Agatha Christie wrote a lot of her stories while travelling. DH Lawrence and Hemingway also. Would your work, creativity, and lifestyle mesh well with a life of permanent travel, like the girl from the article?

midnight flights (most flights, really) between london and manchester are pretty pointless. The train only takes about 2 hours from city centre to city centre, so setting off at 2200 would generally get you there before the plane. There really isn't much point to internal flights in mainland UK, especially given the hassle around check-in times and security involved in air travel these days.

As someone who often travels London to Manchester, it means leaving central London at about 2110 to get the 2140 to get to Stockport at 2345. The next train is the 2300 which gets to Stockport at 0150.

A 0000 from LHR means a 2320 arrival meaning leaving central london at 2220 and being in bed for 0100. The train at that time means being in bed at 0230, that's a lot later at that time of night!

So basically if you need to leave central London between 2110 and 2220 (2240 from points further west - near Paddington or Hammersmith for example), a 0000 flight would be great.

Additionally, as someone who often gets in to LHR from Europe or further affield about 1900-2000 - too late to connect to the last MAN service, a later flight would be great. And then the return down at a decent time in the morning (0600 say, allowing an 0800 departure from LHR) for round it off, 0450 taxi, 0815 to Israel or Kiev.

This is entirely BA's fault of course, they used to run 0600 services. And BMI (before BA bought them) used to run 2200 services (an ERJ, from LHR! It was great). There's many reasons I'm backing off from BA flights, probably won't even make GGL next year, but dropping the early and late MAN flights is one of them.

MAN-LHR is far more convenient for anything west of Hyde Park. 0600 leave home, 0625 Stockport for the 0635 train to euston at 0835 to central london for 0900. Or 0600 leave home 0610 Airport 0635 takeoff, 0735 land and central London for 0820.
