OpenZFS removed offensive terminology from its code
On Wednesday evening, ZFS founding developer Matthew Ahrens submitted what should have been a simple, non-controversial pull request to the OpenZFS project: wherever possible without causing technical issues, the patch removed references to "slaves" and replaced them with "dependents."
This patch in question doesn't change the way the code functions—it simply changes variable names in a way that brings them in conformance with Linux upstream device-mapper terminology, in 48 total lines of code (42 removed and 48 added; with one comment block expanded slightly to be more descriptive).
But this being the Internet, unfortunately, outraged naysayers descended on the pull request, and the comments were quickly closed to non-contributors. I first became aware of this as the moderator of the r/zfs subreddit where the overflow spilled once comments on the PR itself were no longer possible.

This will go on until people say "enough!". Then they will have discovered the breaking point and maybe stay put for a while. But as "progress" didn't stop since 1789, or to look at it unofficially since the industrial revolution, it won't stop now. You have been conditioned to think of progress as a widespread betterment, it is the unfolding of a plan that let people have some freedom in exchange for some demolition of previous order. Now that it has happened, the trap closes in. The sooner you stop thinking according to THEIR categories, left, right, white, black, the better.
Even BLM does not matter, that is, if it hadn't been for the online streaming of poor guy assassination, it would be happening with another excuse.
It is interesting, in this perspective, to consider the apparently unrelated but quite coincidental Italian government (leftist turning soviet) ban of project gutenberg, that was justified by piracy claims.

What about IDE drives, which were designated as either "master" or "slave" drives using jumpers?

Technological progress have sort of resolved that issue for most people as IDE drives are not that common anymore, SATA doesn't use the whole master-slave thing as each is their own. I wonder how they feel about "terminators".

I can't help but think that if this much thought and discussion was put into the rest of the code that there would never be any bugs. I am not against the change to be clear, but I fail to see how this is going to make anyone's lives better.
