Brendan Eich has (in 2012)
donated money [latimes.com] to an initiative towards disallowing same-sex marriage in California (
Supreme court overruled that [cnn.com], in the end).
He's also the creator of JavaScript and was working for the Mozilla foundation as CTO.
Now Mozilla has decided to hire him as the new CEO, and this news has been making the rounds. Developer team Rarebit
removed its apps [teamrarebit.com] from the Firefox market place in response. Other reactions seem mixed. Mozilla itself has a
press release [mozilla.org] that they (my paraphrasing) like diversity want to keep the web open for anyone.
On the one hand, one can wonder if a CEO's personal life ought to affect our view of an organisation. On the other, it is rather weird that the organisation who's main claim to fame is to make diversity possible in the browser world is being headed by someone who is seemingly opposed to some outings of diversity.
