According to The Wall Street Journal,

Apple Inc. is in talks with Comcast Corp. about teaming up for a streaming-television service that would use an Apple set-top box and get special treatment on Comcast's cables to ensure it bypasses congestion on the Web, people familiar with the matter say.

The discussions between the world's most valuable company and the nation's largest cable provider are still in early stages and many hurdles remain. But the deal, if sealed, would mark a new level of cooperation and integration between a technology company and a cable provider to modernize TV viewing.

    This will also help kill net neutrality. It will be the companies with the most money pay for the best line service.

      It will probably come down to CONTENT vs SPEED. Apple will have a speed advantage if this agreement is passed. The content on YouTube however will not have the speed advantage for these customers. One thing I noticed recently is that YouTube is now making available 2160p, 1440p, and 1080p on some videos. A customer would need a FIBER connection to enjoy the higher quality videos. What would happen if Google made all videos 2160p, 1440p,1080p (a mobile connection would have lower def video)? Customers would start switching from Comcast over to Google Fiber because Google Fiber will have more content and better quality. Google Fiber will win.

      Did you really expect to see Apple respect any sort of openness? Closed, curated networks and content is what they want. The only reason they're doing well is that most people can't see how badly it ends.

        At the risk of sounding as dumb as the tech writer: Why not? Isn't the idea that Apple could feed directly into Comcast instead of having it take several hops before it gets to their building a reasonable way to ensure a quality stream?
