Edward Snowden gave testimony via video-link to Council of Europe at parliamentary hearing today (8 Apr).
Highlights:
- NSA spying on human rights organizations both within US borders and abroad
- usage of dragnet and data-mining for general law enforcement (not only for intelligence affairs)
- (popular level) description of used XKeyscore technology and it's capabilities
AFAIK this is the first time Edward Snowden testifies to any legislative organization.

He testified for the European Parliament on March 7th. http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/world/2014/01/0 9/europe-parliament-snowden-nsa/4387153/ [usatoday.com]
Additionally, while the European Parliament is a legislative body, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe is not.

They're the Judean People's Front. We're the People's Front of Judea!

The naming of them might be confusing, but they are actually assemblies of two quite different organisations.
The European Parliament is the parliament of the European Union. The Council of Europe, whose Parliamentary Assembly Snowden testified for this time, is a separate organisation from the EU with a vastly larger membership base and with little real power.

Exactly! On the Wikipedia page of Council of Europe, the first words are "Not to be confused with European Council or Council of the European Union."

This is why i cannot believe the Canadian government is giving Microsoft $300,000 to extend the support for winXP. Windows is an avenue for spying, for crissakes!!!
Wish my tax dollars had been spent converting over to linux... I'd be happy paying taxes for that rather than giving it to Microsoft.....
