So while we are incorporating and generally trying to enhance the site, some new opportunities to help out have arisen. SoylentNews is completely volunteer-based at this point, and having more volunteers will help this site grow and improve. Join us on IRC if you have any questions, or just email one of the contacts below. Additionally, you could investigate the Get Involved section on the wiki.
Developers
Obviously improving and maintaining slashcode requires perl developers, and we could always use more help. Email dev@soylentnews.org if you'd like to get involved.
Editors
Ever find yourself saying "I could do better than these stupid editors?" Well, here's your chance to prove it. SoylentNews could always benefit from more editors from differing timezones and various knowledge backgrounds. Email editors@soylentnews.org if you have a good eye for typos and thick skin.
Q.A.
Did you spot a goof on the last code deploy that seemed obvious? Have any experience in quality assurance or testing? We'd like to assemble a team to vet code and UI changes. If you'd like to help, feel free to mail qa@soylentnews.org.
Misc.
Though it may not sound as glorious, there are many other miscellaneous jobs and tasks that need to be completed. For instance, we could use a few people with IRC admin experience (we run charybdis). If you have any experience in UI design or creating art assets, that would also be helpful. Really anything you might have skills in, or if you are a jack-of-all-trades-type and you'd like to get your hands dirty, come join us on IRC or just send an email to suggestions@soylentnews.org

Can anything be done casually? Most of my access is on a phone which isn't great for lots of typing.
Should I just carry on submitting stories and reporting bugs?

I'm glad you brought that up, as it wasn't addressed specifically above. Submitting stories is one of the very best things that a community member can do to help the site.
If not for our regular submitters like lhsi here (and others like him), this site would be a shell.
For anyone wondering, "What can I do?" "Submitting stories" is a great answer. Even if you only do it a couple times a month, that adds up across the community.

What a great idea! I'll submit the link to this thread so it can get posted on the front page and people will know to submit stories. [ducks and runs for cover]

Gonna finish up my CS degree in a year and a half and not gonna have any spare time until then. If I'm graduated and you're still around by then, it's cause for double-celebration and I'll help out in a more technical capacity -- though I'd do it under a secret identity (complete with extra-calm temperament and persona alteration) that not even you will know, to avoid controversy.
Until then, I'll try to keep up submitting my controversial weekly New York Times article and shitposting under this username.

LaminatorX is correct, submitting stories, commenting, and moderating, are the most useful (and easiest) methods to help out the site. It's much appreciated, keep it up!

Well, assuming you've got the aforementioned thick skin, none! (IMHO)
Anyway, thank you for stepping forward. And thanks to all the current volunteers. Myself, I am regretfully declining. The best I can do is become a subscriber - when the opportunity arises. (Maybe in a year or so I'll have a bit more time, to take on a minor role.)
