A study (abstract) into the effectiveness of mobile adverts has found that only adverts for some products are effective; if a product is either practical or something that takes thought and investigation before making a purchase, mobile adverts were more effective.
- Mobile ads do work for products that have a practical and important use, like a lawn mower or a washing machine
- Mobile ads do work for high-involvement products (a lot of time, thought and energy is placed into the decision, like a family car).
- Mobile ads don't work for just-for-pleasure items, like fancy watches
- Mobile ads don't work for low-involvement purchases like movie tickets or toothbrush (ones that pose a low risk to the buyer)
MDA campaigns that ran between 2007 and 2010 and involved 39,946 consumers show that MDA campaigns significantly increased consumers' favorable attitudes and purchase intentions only when the campaigns advertised products that were higher (vs. lower) involvement and utilitarian (vs. hedonic).

In my experience, there is no such thing as a mobile ad...oh wait, you mean people use a mobile browser without adblockers, or use a mobile phone without 40,000 entries in their hosts file? Suckers deserve what they get.

Oh, but there are [google.com].
Oh, wait, you mean people that use something else than a proper mobile phone [wordpress.com]? Suckers deserve what they get (including the waste of their time in curating 40,000 entries in their hosts file).

Ooh, well aren't you fantastic? Mod parent up +1 Smug.
Some of us aren't computer geniuses who can mod our phones willy-nilly. Some more of us might actually be quite happy to let a few non-obtrusive ads flash up in exchange for a useful app.

Please fill out our survey! Please select the "non-genius" option. Because everyone knows there ain't no Sanity Claus, nor a +1 Smug. Though that might be a really good addition to the moderation scheme. Beats the "I was down-modded by disagreers!" option.

No, it's clearly not apk. There was not a single bold letter in that post. ;-)

You are part of the problem. If instead of blocking ads you just stopped visiting sites that annoy you, the world would be a tiny bit better place.

David Ogilvy said advertisement doesn't help sell a bad product, it only makes it off the market more quickly. However it can help sell a good product a great deal.
