Freewheelin' Franklin writes in with a story about the dire weed shortage currently gripping New Zealand. He reminds us yet again that "Dope will get you through times of no money better than money will get you through times of no dope."

Danielle Street's article over at Vice describes the life-threatening shortage in gruesome detail:

New Zealand is suffering its worst weed drought in recent history, and so far pot-starved kiwis have no one to point the finger at.

She goes on to say that

...it's the most severe shortage they had seen in 15 years, and that it was a "nightmare for consumers," who were struggling to buy weed at any price.

One brave weed smoker was willing to go on record to talk about the current buzz-killing nightmare that is New Zealand.

Do any Soylentils have some weed they can spare for their brothers in New Zealand? If so, post your name, address and a contact telephone number in the comments section. Someone will be in touch shortly.

I had some weed but then I smoked

    ham
    hamburger
and a bit of lettuce, some bacon, cheese, some bacon, and mustard and bacon with some ketchup and mustard on the hamburger. And a strawberry milkshake. ...Do you guys have curly fries?

Funny you should say that. I was in NZ around 2004 and I was chatting to a local and he told me that him and his mates were hired as extras during filming of LOTR. He said he had photo's of him and his mates dressed up middle earth style smoking spliffs between takes. Or should I say tokes :-)

I figured it was a safe speculation. Years ago I heard that Robin Williams, (rest in peace), and some of the cast were toking down on the set of Popeye - made me think of the world in a whole new light.

Random side thought - I always thought it would be funny as hell to run up on stoners wearing an Alfred E. Newman mask.

One of my old friends was a weed fiend, and unfortunately unbeknownst to him we had run out and he was craving another hit.

So my other buddy grabs a stray live potato bug and puts it in the bowl, telling the fiendish friend to light up. "C'mon!" "Hit it!" "Harder!" "Harder!" as the rest of us watched the potato bug shivel and crackle, it's little legs curling and evaporating like hairs under the heat.

He screamingly choked and said some dumb shit like, "Duuuuuuude, that was the best shit I ever smoked...was that hash?!"

He got me back years later when he pissed in my beer during another friend's wedding.

p.s. This theme is pretty rad, will probably make it my default in place of night mode.

I'm too lazy to tend the small plot of mud-like substance in my courtyard, everywhere you look, you'll find a weed. You can have them all.

Glad to see someone still remembers them.

I got the Franklin "Dope will" poster from Rip Off Press about a month ago. Printed in 2004, sitting in stock ever since.

Ahh takes me back.. I feel 10 years old again having found my dad's stash of porn and underground comix.

I grew up to be a stoner (Responsible one with a full time job etc), looking back, I can't be sure if Shelton's work encouraged or dissuaded me from the bum stoner lifestyle.

Still between the Freak brothers and Robert Crumbs Zap! and Weirdo comix, I saw a world of counter culture that had died and made me realise how bland and homogenous the current world is.

And made ME feel a lot less of a werido. ;-)

    Thanks for the reminder NotSanguine.

    Peace brothers and sisters.

More people will grow indoors if they are that desperate or they take a trip on their tiny little island to the non-South/North parts.
The worse is that RAIDS are driving people to OTHER drugs.
Such is the case here, where Cocaine dominates the market.
