Liberté, égalité, fraternité? Non! At least no "liberté" if the lower house of the French parliament has anything to do with it. The New York Times is reporting:

The lower house of the French Parliament overwhelmingly approved a sweeping intelligence bill that, if it passes in the upper house, would give the government broad surveillance powers with little judicial oversight.

The measure, which must still pass the Senate, was a strong reaction to the security threat vividly displayed by the January terrorist attacks in and around Paris, including at the offices of the satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo and at a kosher grocery that left 17 people dead.

The bill would give French intelligence services the right to gather potentially unlimited electronic data from Internet communications, and to tap cellphones and capture text messages. It would force Internet providers to comply with government requests to sift through subscribers' communications.

These attacks are a clear consequence of the massive invasion of immigrants. They come in such numbers that assimilation is impossible, doubly so due to the difference in religion. Western Europe learned nothing from the last century; That countries are at peace when they are monolithic, and powderkegs when they are not.

Freedom can only happen in a shared culture.

      Agree with this comment absolutely.

Too much of anything is bad. That includes too many: Chinese, Russians, Italians, Lithuanians, xxxx... etc.

Other races and religions are nice in small quantities, but problems begin when there are too many outsiders and you can't escape them. Eventually they start making themselves comfortable, making the hosts uncomfortable.

No matter what the host country is, outsiders are usually always outsiders. And they usually stay because of economical reasons.

As you note Liberté, égalité, fraternité doesn't really apply here, even tho the submitter thinks so -- or well at least that liberte would be under attack (I doubt that it is). France is home to a fairly large muslim immigrant population, previously it used to come from the old colonies but this new wave just have nothing in common with them and they seem to have very little love over for France. It's clearly causing massive problems on a systemic scale across Europe, not only in France. Without a shared culture or some kind of brotherhood like feeling integration becomes almost impossible. I would think Dupont (or Average Joe in France) doesn't feel a lot of fraternite or brotherhood with these potential criminals and terrorists which means they probably don't have that much of a problem with this new set of laws. For people that want to leave France (or some other European country) to join the Jihad-World-Tour there probably isn't a lot of lost love.

Right. And who is responsible for that? When someone comes to France, China, US, Australia, whatever, what is their state of mind? Perhaps it tends to be "I'm trying to get to a better place and that place holds more opportunities for me" and "I'm willing to take this giant risk to do something with my life".. and then they come over, and tend to work and generally integrate. Sure, many want to remain connected with their former culture, but that is secondary. More like nostalgia than anything else. These people put up with all sort of hatred and shit, but they tend to expect it too.

Then, you have their kids. Or their kid's kids. Most of which grew up in France, China, US, Australia, whatever. But if that place's culture is fucked up that you have to be of certain ethnicity to be French, Chinese, American, Australian, whatever, then what do you think these young people will feel? What does a French "arab" or "black person" or whatever that lived their entire life in France, got schooled in France, believed they are French, but then they are told "go the fuck home immigrant" because their name is Mustafah and/or they are not white?

If one part of the population can't get a job because employers favour French-sounding names, then you have a systemic problem that will blow up in your face. And this problem is caused by the "locals", not "immigrants" -- heck, it is a local vs. local problem all tied together with racism and bigotry. The more you dish out, the more you'll receive. And since you seem to like calling your not-french-looking French "potential criminals and terrorists", that's just what they will become. And remember, these people didn't come to where they are - most were born where they are and they *expect* equality, but they receive nothing like it.

Hate breeds hate. Deal with it.

For people that want to leave France (or some other European country) to join the Jihad-World-Tour there probably isn't a lot of lost love.

And this has nothing to do with immigrants, except maybe in someone's head. Most people that join these nut groups from France,US,Australia,Canada, whatever are not immigrants - most are just criminals.

Well, assimilation is possible. The problem immigrants face is no different than what immigrants in the US face. The difference is I believe that the Americans, for all it's anti-immigrant bullshit, tolerates immigrants far more than France does. Why this is I cannot tell you but Americans do.

Speaking for myself, I welcome immigrants. They're are a blessing for this country. I especially welcome the Indians and the Pakistanis. Without them I could not get my regular dose of curry.

I would like to think it is because we have freedom of speech - which means the bigots get to air their ugliness for everyone to see and then be ridiculed and shamed for it. Much of europe has laws forbidding that - France in particular has tons of restrictions on insulting speech, except for insulting religion. In broad terms, you can't say someone is inferior because they come from Senegal, but you can say they are inferior because they are muslim.

But it may be that we are just a young country and less people have generations of 'owning' the culture so there is less resistance to blending in new cultures.
