Apple's September 16th release of watchOS 2 for the Apple Watch has been delayed:

"We have discovered a bug in development of watchOS 2 that is taking a bit longer to fix than we expected," an Apple spokesperson told TechCrunch. "We will not release watchOS 2 today but will shortly."

Anandtech notes that Apple Watch "is managed from your iPhone and has no way to be connected to iTunes by a user for a restore [so] it's extremely important that Apple ensures the stability of updates before shipping them".

According to other sources, iOS9 will be released on schedule.

I don't quite understand what they mean by this. The Watch doesn't store any data you create on it, it's all stored on the phone. Even screengrabs you take are put into the camera roll. You can wipe the watch and be right back to where you in however long it takes to reinstall the apps.

Unless what they're saying is that the watch is a little too easy to brick right now. That could be true but but at best they're just speculating.

It could be a low-level issue that is impossible to fix via Itunes and its reflash faculties.[with respect to the iWatch particularly]

I'd imagine people would be pissed if they spent this much on something this useless....and it didn't even do the limited set of things it is supposed to.

not being an iDevice owner, I am having a hard time understanding why I would need itunes to correct watch problems. I'd assume its the sync to the phone and things on the phone that would help remediate something like that.

The phone may require it's cell connection (being jailed and all of that...) to get to itunes and do the needfuls, but i wouldn't expect the watch to be making direct connections anywhere. If the itunes service was aware of it, it would be due to its tethering, not due to it's direct querying.

        Or so I would think.

then again I use a blackberry bold, so this entire concept is alien to me. I have some tablets but not ipads. i just load stuff on an SD card or via a usb cable and off I go. Same with firmwares loading, but I guess anandtech is for regular consumers and not technical people?
