New York Comic Con began on the 8th, running Oct. 8th - 11th. The event is sold out, so if any Soylentils are attending it's a good opportunity to practice some citizen journalism. Take pics, take notes, post them to SN so we can live through you vicariously!

to San Diego Comic-Con for my kids 6 years in a row. It's almost impossible due to their clusterfuck system. Now they're grown up so I gave up, you have better odds of winning the lottery or getting struck by lightning. Fuck Comic-Con.

First year showed up on the second day, second year was subscribed so I got to purchase tickets early.

Honestly, if you have a comic convention in your town and you're not looking to meet a specific author/artist, or a panel from your favorite 'nerdy' TV show, there's not a lot to miss. The second year I went I practically skipped the floor and just hung out in the anime rooms checking out stuff I wasn't sure I'd like without blowing money on renting/buying it.

Given that they had counterfeiters selling on the floor there, the quality control wasn't really any better than your mom and pops comic con anyway.

Besides that: Doesn't New York have a thriving enough independent comic scene to just rub elbows with the locals anyhow?
