Micah Lee from The Intercept sat down with Edward Snowden in Moscow last week to talk about privacy. Some of the responses from Snowden sound like good advice and is not too technical that most laymen would be unable to understand and adopt with a little research. What does the Soylent community think about his advice? Are there any poor recommendations there that should be called out or additional things that people should think about?

encrypt phone calls - Ah, no.

About the only people I talk to on the phone are my customers, and I can't very well ask them to install Signal just to keep the conversation from being recorded. Nobody I know uses Signal. I might install it just to see how well it works.

So if you steal and dump a bunch of classified documents, you're now an expert on all sorts of stuff. All hail the Reality TV generation! I can't wait for him to start weighing in on foreign policy, race relations, and the new season of Game of Thrones!

Years ago there was that highly publicized incident where that woman was in her house and an intruder was there and we heard it all through a recording of the phone call where she is on the phone with 911 or her husband or something; she's scared shitless but she has a gun and she's told to shoot the guy. She shoots something like six times, hits him a couple of times (but doesn't kill him). This became the cause célèbre of the gun movement and Republicans. Next thing you hear is that she was made the head of some Neighborhood Watch. She went from barely knowing which end of the gun to hold to being an expert on security all overnight.

Lol, you are saying the guy who sneaked a bunch of documents out of the NSA that he shouldn't have had access to isn't a good authority on how to protect your data/privacy?

If you're using Windows, Android, MAC OS or iOS, you're squarely in their sights. These are made by US corps, which have no defense against the US gov.

Or there is no use trying to build a castle on quick sand.
