A Slovakian company is attempting to raise $70,000 to get its "Drone n Base" fleet of battling mini UAVs off the ground.

According to the tin-rattlers down at Indiegogo, Drone N Base is the "ultimate multiplayer drone game", enabling smartphone-controlled racing or aerial combat. The basic kit includes a lightweight (46g with battery, and therefore suitable for unregistered use in Ireland) quadcopter, base station, two batteries (seven minutes flying time on one battery), charger and spare props.

Naturally, there's an app – iOS or Android – enabling remote vehicle control via Bluetooth, and the drones interact with each other and the base station via infrared.

They should shoot BBs at least.

I can't see any potential problems with arming drones with solid projectiles [youtube.com].

Slovakia is not permitted to have drone technology. Asymmetric warfare must remain asymmetric to maintain the American advantage over the barbarians of the Overseas.

Battling a drone squadron - i.e. the drone squadron is a problem.

    OR

Battling-drone squadron - i.e. a squadron of drones that battle.

    Maybe it should be:

Smartphones are really amazing general purpose devices and they suck at almost everything they do. When I see people controlling a flying to with their phone I really wonder why in the hell they are wasting their time. Tactile feedback is really important and just like wasting your time trying to operate the TV with a smart phone based remote control app through the touch screen good piloting comes from the feel of the part you are manipulating.

Even the cheap piece of crap controllers in the average tiny quad package, like an Estes Proto, provide a miserable flight experience. Normally I just shake my head and wish someone would show these people what real flying is like with quality gear. In this situation though they want people to race them and that is quite absurd. The only good part is all of them will be in a class that is equally poorly controllable.

For reference I'm an r/c pilot with over 100 hours of juggling stuff flying around in the air. One of the earliest investments anyone should make is in the highest quality transmitter that meets the technical requirements and that they can afford. You don't need a lot of features but you'll want something that feels good or it quickly becomes a limiting factor.
