Hungryhouse take away delivery service has suffered a data breach. I was informed after receiving text message to say my password had been changed.

So I checked on the website and sure enough.. I could not log in. so I phoned them and I was told that about 10,000 passwords had been reset and that it was a "minor data breach" and if i wanted my account checked i could. I then asked if anyone had ordered anything since last night as that was my last known order. All was well. They are very much playing it down... but we shall see, there's nothing on the interwebs about it yet

[Looks like it has now received coverage; see: The Register and Data Breaches. - ed.]

I wonder how long until little companies make up stories to get PR. I'd never heard of hungryhouse before now. Part of the problem is likely because I live about six thousand kilometers away from their closest delivery area so the mileage (kilometer-age?) fee is likely to be pretty spectacular. Also the food would get cold unless they used an ICBM as a delivery drone.

The problem with middlemen stacked on middlemen all the way down is you get infinitely more opportunities for failure.

No-one ordered any pizza via your account and you conclude from that that all was well?

I think I'd want more reassurance than that from any company that (presumably) has some way of charging me money for their service?
