The FBI has released an app that displays information about bank robberies:

The FBI today released a Bank Robbers mobile app designed to help the public, law enforcement, and financial institutions see and share photos and information about robberies all over the country.

The app allows users to sort bank robberies by date, state, category (armed? disguised? serial offender?), as well as the FBI field station handling the case. You can get surveillance photos, details of the crime, physical descriptions of the suspect as well as the FBI's wanted poster. And if you want, a push notification will tell you when a bank robbery has occurred near your location and a link to the FBI's online tips page.

Install FBI code on my phone? Why not!?

"Install this app and help law enforcement pro-actively by telling you where you are at all times. Have you /seen/ the ankle-band on your cousin's leg that she got after being convicted of her hilarious misdemeanor? Do you want one as well? Install this app now!"

I guess their rationale goes something along the lines of: People keep complaining when we ask GOOG, FB, TelCo's for your phone records and location data. What if we get people to hand it over to us directly...

I think the problem is that it's an app, which modern app appers know can only be apped by apps. Factsheets and websites that will just tell you the information, even in real time, are for LUDDITES.

Hey, baby steps here! This still helps, by telling you to concentrate your efforts not on the branch that was just robbed (and thus has no money and a heavy police presence) but on the branch on the other side of town (which will take the cops a while to get to, because they're all busy at the last robbery).

They don't even bother with arrest warrants anymore since Dutch is too busy with the mystery of the "green shit." I really wish they'd give the mysterious green liquid a proper name and stop literally calling it "that green shit." Every week on Killjoys it's a new episode about "the green shit" and it's getting tiresome.
