KTLA TV in Los Angeles reports Video Shows American Airlines Flight Attendant Telling Passenger "Hit Me" After Taking Stroller From Mother

Video of an altercation on an American Airlines flight [April 21] shows an airline employee challenging a passenger to hit him after a flight attendant violently grabbed a woman's stroller [(pram)], according to eyewitnesses.

It's unclear what happened before passengers on flight 591 from San Francisco to Dallas/Ft. Worth started recording, but video shared on Facebook shows a sobbing mother clutching a young child toward the front of the plane, asking employees to give back her stroller.

According to multiple witnesses, the woman, who is from Argentina and was flying internationally, brought her stroller on the plane. When the flight attendant attempted to remove the stroller from the plane, there was an altercation which resulted in the stroller striking the woman and nearly hitting her child.

[...][Passenger and witness Olivia] Morgan said she talked to the woman about the incident. The woman said a female flight attendant told her she could look for space to store the stroller because it folds up very small, but if there was no available space, she would need to check it at the gate.

"She was looking for space when the male attendant tried to take it away from her... and she said she told him the other attendant had told her it was okay to look", [Morgan] said.

[...] In the video, a male passenger can be heard saying that he's "not going to sit here and watch this". The passenger stands up in the aisle and asks the flight crew, "What's the guy's name that did that with the stroller, I want to know the guy's name."

Moments later, a male flight attendant boards the plane, and the passenger who stood up says to him: "Hey bud, you do that to me and I'll knock you flat."

The flight attendant points his finger back at the passenger, moving toward him as he fires back, "You stay out of this!"

When the passenger jumps out of his seat, the flight attendant holds his hands out and says, "Try it. Hit me. You don't know what the story is."

[...] [After the woman refused to let the flight attendant take the stroller, he] then asked for security personnel, which "escalated" the situation, according to [passenger and witness Tom] Watson.

[...] The airline issued the following statement [1] regarding the incident:

We have seen the video and have already started an investigation to obtain the facts. What we see on this video does not reflect our values or how we care for our customers. We are deeply sorry for the pain we have caused this passenger and her family and to any other customers affected by the incident. We are making sure all of her family's needs are being met while she is in our care. After electing to take another flight, we are taking special care of her and her family and upgrading them to first class for the remainder of their international trip.

The actions of our team member captured here do not appear to reflect patience or empathy, two values necessary for customer care. In short, we are disappointed by these actions. The American team member has been removed from duty while we immediately investigate this incident.

So, are there any airlines that fly where you want to go who have well-vetted, well-trained personnel? Extra points awarded if those have USAian employees/management.

  * A bride and groom were kicked off their United Airlines flight from Houston this weekend as they traveled to Costa Rica for their wedding.

Td;lr: Married couple finds their seats in economy class taken up by a sleeping man. By courtesy they just sit down on seats three rows away which happened to be in economy plus class on a flight which is half empty. They asked to upgrade but were refused and then headed to their assigned seats. However by then the airline had decided that they were rule breakers and must be thrown off regardless.

Details: United Airlines flight number 1737 on 2017-04-15. George Bush Intercontinental Airport (Houston, Texas) on Saturday to Liberia, Costa Rica.

Last time after the second incident, the stock took a fall from 69.8 to 69 US$ (UAL). One can ask how much this will cost in market value decimation and in customers dropping them? What will the economist and MBA, CEO, Oscar Muñoz say?

Delta Airlines Forces Family off Plane - Threatened with Jail 34 comments

We had two Soylentils submit stories about a family being ordered off a plane by Delta Airlines.

Forced off a Delta Plane and for Keeping Their Seat

A California family used the seat their 18-year old son didn't use because he left with an earlier flight. They made use of it for their child instead, but were forced off the Delta Air Lines plane and threatened with jail after refusing to give it up on the crowded flight..

View all the raw glory or do it with some commentary.

Delta Airlines: "Give Up the Seat or You're Going to Jail"

AlterNet reports

Brian Schear, of Huntington Beach, said he and his family were flying overnight from Hawaii to Los Angeles last week when [Delta Airlines] employees asked them to give up the seat where their 2-year-old son was sitting, reported KABC-TV.

[...] "You have to give up the seat or you're going to jail, your wife is going to jail and they'll take your kids from you," Schear recalled the flight attendant saying.

Delta employees wanted the family to hold the young child in their laps during the flight, but Schear argued that they had bought the boy a ticket because he needed to sit in his car seat to sleep.

An employee inaccurately told the family the boy needed to sit in a seat with an adult, because the airline's website recommends that children under 2 years old should sit in an approved child seat in a ticketed seat of their own.

The entire family was ordered off the plane, and they stayed overnight in a hotel and bought new tickets the following day, reported KTLA-TV

I'm not sure if this current uptrend in stories is an actual increase in incidences or merely a business-centric news media that prioritizes sensationalism over substance. One thing is for sure however, there has been a general trend in the airline industry of unsatisfied customers and incidences that have only been getting more frequent as time goes on. People cite several reasons for this such as the increased number of passengers flying every year, increased delays associated with boarding, impersonal treatment by security personnel, general trend of decreasing space for individual passengers as airlines try to squeeze more passengers on each flight to make more money, and of course the general availability of alcohol (I never understood the rational behind this). Its probably a combination of many factors but satisfaction with the airline industry has certainly plummeted over the past few decades.

Uzzard has a Narrative, though. It relies on anyone he disagrees with being completely Other and therefore completely Wrong, and therefore completely non-human, so that he may discount anything they say out of hand, rather than having to think about anything they might say that might make him have to do even the smallest bit of self-reflection. And it's transparently obvious to everyone, as the last couple of weeks of all-comers beatdowns should have taught him (but likely haven't).

So he'll do something to rationalize this away, because if he doesn't, his Narrative will collapse. And we'll all see it when he does. And he'll think none of us will. And so the cycle of vulturous autofellatio will continue...

Sorry, but your reductio ad absurdum does not really work, here. "Mother of twins", where applicable, is an excellent headline-compatible shorthand for the important bit of context that said passenger was travelling with a multitude of - probably small - kids. Mentioning the stroller makes a lot of sense too, as it is also the object of the dispute, and adds further indication that the kids are young, indeed. You're downright insincere in suggesting that roles (flight attendant vs. passenger) don't matter, or that airline affiliation is not a central bit of information to the story.

But sex of the flight attendant? Surely it would be mentioned in the story, if only implicitly by use of pronouns. But what's the purpose of putting it in the headline? Accept it - and mark the day in your calender - for once, TMB is right in calling something sexist.

My reason in putting the gender in the headline was to pose the question:
Would a female flight attendant have tried to strong-arm the situation?
            My guess is NO.
Why then is it ever acceptable for a male doing the same job to presume that it is his place to use physical force?

Note also that if he had invested his time into actually HELPING instead of assigning himself the job of rent-a-cop, maybe stuff could have been shifted around in a way that space for the stroller could be found.

Again, DO *YOUR* FUCKING JOB and **DON'T** go assigning yourself new responsibilities/authority just because you have a Y chromosome.

There are, unfortunately, a number of such broken-failure-wannabe males wandering around because
it is generally against (poorly considered) social laws to kill them upon identification.

Or perhaps because the woman was legitimately asking for it. Yes, some women do act like abusive sociopaths with the knowledge that white knights like you will stroll on their white horse as soon as they get what they deserve. People like you are directly responsible for increasing male suicide and rampant abuse of men.

You are all about controlling the behavior of other people. Only that you have been morally dragged out on the street and shamed out of your existence so you cannot say shit like 'women shouldnt do this, women should do that'. But you find it still okay to control behavior of men.

Also, what does it matter whether it was a mother of twins, or a mother of a single baby? Heck, why does it matter that she was the mother and not just a nanny? And what does it matter that she was female? Or that what she was hit with was actually a stroller? And does it really matter that it was an American Airlines flight attendant and not one of another airline? So let's get rid of all that:

      Flight Attendant Hits Passenger

And you probably assumed his gender as well just because he could grow facial hair and had a penis too!

Where does it say he has a penis? That's just your assumption based on the information that he is male. You can be male and yet not have any penis. That may be rare, but there's still no reason to discriminate those people!

It seems from the article that woman caused a lot of trouble by bringing the stroller to the cabin. Some people just seem chaotic and cause a lot of problems. That said, it also seems that the flight crew handled this very badly and being payed plus being in a position of power also implies that some level of professionalism can be demanded. Everyone seems to have this WWE image of him swinging the stroller at her to teach her a lesson for bringing it on the flight. Do we even know how hard she was hit? Is it a case that he pulled from one end while she was holding the middle and the law of the lever took over? It's too easy for all of us here, none of us likely are flight attendants, and were definitely not on that flight, and the video recording only starts after the event, to give an opinion with no evidence. What if she's a con artist, and knowing the recent bad press that US airlines have had recently has decided to try capitalise on this for a payout. What if she, while he was holding the stroller, pulled on it hard enough to hit herself and then scream that he hit her?

None of us here in our armchairs have any of the facts and cannot with good conscience decide guilt or innocence, and the headline writer is equally guilty (or even worse so) for trying to rule him guilty in the media court.
