Jerry Lewis: US comedian dies aged 91 in Las Vegas

Entertainer Jerry Lewis, one of Hollywood's most successful comedians, has died aged 91. A family statement said he had died of natural causes at his home in Las Vegas on Sunday morning. Lewis's 10-year partnership with Dean Martin saw them star in 16 films and achieve huge box office success. He became the highest paid actor in Hollywood, chalking up hits such as The Bell Boy, Cinderfella and The Nutty Professor.

takyon: Also at Variety, IMDB, Wikipedia, and NYT:

As a spokesman for the Muscular Dystrophy Association, Mr. Lewis raised vast sums for charity; as a filmmaker of great personal force and technical skill, he made many contributions to the industry, including the invention in 1960 of a device — the video assist, which allowed directors to review their work immediately on the set — still in common use.

Or did he?

I don't want to be remembered. I want the nice words when I can hear them.

Gets even more interesting in the comments.

Wow, the love-child of Jerry Lewis story is nuts, and as you said, the comments are just as good.

She seems like someone with some mental health problems to me.

I can't help but draw comparisons to this franchise [youtube.com] (originating in Ubisoft's French subsidiaries, I believe).

As a kid, a long long time ago, I used to love Jerry Lewis's films, which I found extremely funny. Unfortunately, they haven't aged very well. (Or, perhaps, I haven't!) The other day I got a chance to watch The Nutty Professor. I was eager to see one those films that I liked as a child, but I was completely disappointed. I found the film silly, not funny at all, and gave up on it after the first half hour.

Anyway, thanks, Jerry, for all that childhood laughter that you gave me, even if I seem to have outgrown your films.

That hold true for a lot of TV shows and films. Stuff you enjoyed and laughed at as a kid doesn't always hold up as well.

i thought he was funny when i was a kid too. haven't went back and watched any of it though. i remember it was silly humor even when i was a kid so i assume it doesn't hold up too well in more than one way.

i agree though: thanks for the deep belly laughter when i was 5 or whatever.

So I read somewhere he raised $4 Billion for Muscular Dystrophy. So my question is: How is it still a thing? or What did you actually do with the money?
