Drug-Shooting 'Bazooka' Seized In Mexico As Smugglers Aim Skyward

As Mexican authorities continue to crack down on drug smugglers, criminals continue to aim high in a bid to evade them. Last week, Mexican authorities seized a jury-rigged bazooka and nearly one ton of marijuana in the border town of Agua Prieta in Sonora state, the Mexican Attorney General said in a statement.

The bazooka had been "adapted" to use a compressor for launching drugs into the United States. The Mexican daily El Universal reports the device was inside a van with a sliding roof, allowing the bazooka to shoot the drugs from the cover of the vehicle.

Agua Prieta lies directly across the border from Douglas, Ariz. Last year, Mexican federal authorities found yet another "homemade bazooka" in the town, this one measuring nearly 10 feet long, alongside an air compressor inside a modified panel van with no license plate. Officials say it was apparently used for launching projectiles, possibly drugs, across the border.

If "legal" retail prices for cannabis drop, maybe these will be packed with heroin or cocaine instead.

I have a funny story about that from a guy I knew. First of all, being a mule is still a preferred method. Knew a guy who smuggled 10K worth of heroin in a condom tucked deep into his ass. Well, when he came back and went home, he forgot about it and took a shit, then flushed it.

10K worth of heroin literally down the drain. A few buddies and he actually dug to the septic tank outside and unsuccessfully tried to retrieve it.

Put them a mile apart, making breaches costly.

Drug bazookas would need to be like artillery, including dense projectiles to overcome the air resistance. Drones would need larger batteries and longer-range radios, and flights per day would be severely reduced. Tunnels become major engineering projects. Ladders have to be carried through a no-man's-land for a mile.

This isn't a communist country. Bribes don't go over all that well. When you offer or demand a bribe, there is a decent chance that the other party will report it.

We can randomize the guards and hide their identity. This makes bribes much less likely to succeed.

I keep hearing this and I don't believe it.

Teens who know even the most square 21 year old can ask that 21 year old to go into a liquor or grocery store and buy them some alcohol.

Someone has to be cool enough to know a drug dealer that can get them weed in states where it is still illegal. The liquor store clerk won't rob you, turn out to be an undercover cop, or ask to hang out later.

Yes teens can and do acquire alcohol that way, but it turns out that by and large most people will not do that or it will cost the teens more than they care to pay the mule. Higher cost, requirement of finding someone willing to break the law, generally turns out its hard to do. Also, most people turn to family / friends which immediately makes it more likely that their parents will find out thus increasing the shame factor.

Buying weed does not require being "cool enough", apparently you just never tried hard enough or you're operating from an ignorant perspective. I find the latter the most likely. If you ask around you will pretty quickly find someone to point you in the right direction, because it turns out those dealers are doing it to make MONEY not FRIENDS.

So believe it, legalizing weed does not increase teen use. In fact it is likely to discourage teen use, who wants to illegally supply some teenager to sell at a school when there are perfectly legal outlets to sell from? Who wants to face possible jail time? Legalization is better all around, just gotta finish convincing the puritans.

We could, perhaps, legalize drugs. I sure wish precursors like iodine weren't restricted!

The wall is cheap. We could build a new one every year and still spend less than we do dealing with the illegals. We've built interstate highways; they take far more space and materials and are much more harmful to wildlife.

The lock on your door can be broken or picked, or even bypassed via a broken window, so why bother? It slows the foes, so we aren't so overwhelmed trying to catch them.

It is the enemy of the American people! Tremendous drugs are pouring into the United States at levels that nobody has ever seen before. This has happened over the last three to four years in particular. The wall will stop much of the drugs from pouring into this country and poisoning our youth. We need the wall. It is imperative. Now, we’re going to build a real wall. We’re going to build a wall that works, and it’s going to have a huge impact on the inflow of drugs coming across. That could be one of the main reasons you have to have the wall. It’s an additional tool to stop the inflow of drugs into our country. In our wall we need transparency. As I've said, we need transparency for when they shoot, or throw, the large sacks of drugs over. They hit you on the head with 60 pounds of stuff? It's over. Believe me, folks, it's over. #MAGA 🇺🇸

No, it's an adjective, and it means dark (so could be used to describe something either black or brown). The black pudding you refer to has a noun for its name, and that noun also shares the implication of being dark. However that's not the reason it's called that, because prieto also means pressed (and the common 'p', 'r', and 'e' in the Spanish and English words are no coincidence, both come from a Latin root), which is the original meaning of the word, darkness was a more modern poetic interpretation of the implied density.

Wasn't there a story a while back about a guy who bio-engineered yeast to produce opiates? That seems like the way you'd really want to do it. Yeast is ubiquitous. You can make really excellent sourdough by mixing equal parts flour and water and letting it sit out for a couple days to capture the wild yeast in the air. Introduce enough of the bio-engineered variety into the environment and you could produce all the opiates you want by capturing the strain from the air.
