Arthur T Knackerbracket has found the following story:

Laser physicists from the Laboratory of Attosecond Physics at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität and the Max Planck Institute of Quantum Optics have developed an extremely powerful broadband infrared light source. This light source opens up a whole new range of opportunities in medicine, life science, and material analysis.

Infrared light has a keen sense for molecules. With the help of this light, researchers are able to go in search of the small particles which shape and determine our lives. The phenomenon, in which infrared light sets molecules in vibration, is pivotal in this search. Scientists are exploiting this phenomenon by using infrared light to analyze the molecular makeup of samples.

[...] In the hope that this analysis can become even more exact, the laser physicists from the Laboratory of Attosecond Physics (LAP) at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität (LMU) in Munich and the Max Planck Institute of Quantum Optics (MPQ) have developed an infrared light source that has an enormously broad spectrum of wavelengths. This light source is the first of its kind worldwide and can be used to help detect the smallest amounts of molecules in liquids like blood.

When infrared light encounters molecules, they begin to vibrate. In this process, each particular type of molecule is brought into motion by a very specific set of different wavelengths in the range from 3 to 20 micrometers.

By examining the wavelengths of the light being emitted after this excitation, researchers are able to derive the molecular composition of the sample. The more powerful the source of infrared light and the more wavelengths utilized, the higher the chance of determining the sample composition, in for example breath or blood.

Knocking. Thomson heard a knocking sound from outside his front door. What he found strange was that the knocking almost sounded "fleshy," for lack of a better term. Thomson decided to open his front door to investigate.

Thomson had always been a staunch feminist and a believer in the notion of equality between the sexes. What he saw when he opened his door was a man on top of a woman, violently raping and beating her. He couldn't believe what he was seeing. This was happening right in front of him, in broad daylight. The rapist briefly looked up at Thomas, smiled, and told him that he was forced to apprehend her when she tried escaping from him. At this moment, Thomson understood.

Feminism? Equality? Rubbish, all of it. Thomson knew. The man knew that a woman's proper place was to be under a man, squealing. What a fool he had been. If only he had twisted his head sideways in the past, he could have seen The Tower. He broke down in tears in the face of the revolutionary insights that entered his brain.

That day, a man reached True Enlightenment.

The bot posts rubbish, you plebs downmod it, and then SoylentNews marks the IP address as a spammer.

Of course, the IP address in question is undoubtedly that of a Tor exit node; the result is that people using Tor may no longer comment easily, as so many exit nodes are marked as spammers.

Why do dissenting voices post through Tor?

Well, because their legitimate comments get downmoded, too. Leftists use every means to shut down dissenting views—it's the digital equivalent of "disappearing" someone to a "re-education" gulag.

How would a Leftist combat these Tor users? Simple. Make a bot that posts trash, and thereby makes Tor unusable.

            > legitimate comments get downmoded

I normally browse at -1, so I see all the comments that are posted. Perhaps once a week I see something that looks like a legitimate comment to me, but was down modded. I give it a + vote like "underrated. I believe that others here do the same. Whatever you are complaining about can't be very common.

Every now and then I see obvious spam that was modded "-1 offtopic" -- perhaps this is a better way to deal with the problem?

A Spam Mod takes away a TREMENDOUS amount of Karma, it takes away 10 Karma. It says -1 Score, that's VERY DECEPTIVE because it's -10 Karma. Minus 10! And there's no way to give the Karma back to that tweet. People don't know this, Underrated doesn't change Karma. Overrated doesn't change Karma. Everything else changes Karma by 1, up or down. And changes the Score by 1, up or down. So if you work it out -- I'm a very smart person, I worked this out in my head -- when there's a Spam Mod in the mix, it's IMPOSSIBLE to give back all the Karma.

Let me tell you how. Let's say a tweet starts out with 0 Score. Zero, let's say it's an Anonymous Coward tweet. Along comes a Spam Modder, right, now the score is Minus 1. Administrators -- the Deep State Elite of SoylentNews -- leave the Spam Mod -- so many times they leave it, let's say they leave it for this one, OK? And -- this won't ever, ever happen, let's say it did. Let's imagine 6 VERY SMART Moderators come by. And they say, +1 Insightful, +1 Interesting, +1 Informative, whatever. Until it gets to Score, +5 something. Then, no more Up Modding. It's not allowed. What happened? Crooked Hillary, right, Hillary will never own up to what happened! But what happened to the tweet is that the 1 Spam Modder -- backed by the Administrators -- took away 10 Karma and the 6 Up Modders gave back 6 Karma. So there's 4 Karma that was taken away. And can't be given back, not to that tweet. It's IMPOSSIBLE. Work it out, I did it in my head. But you can work it out with Pen & Paper or with a calculator. Or the number line, very easy with the number line. I made a link to the calculator website, people didn't like that one. Not may people know, if you have a cell phone, if you have computer, you have a calculator (calculators, when I went to school, cost hundreds of dollars, now almost everybody has one and doesn't even know it!). Or just believe me. I will NEVER lie to you.

And it's not just impossible, like I said it doesn't happen. When there's a Spam Mod on a tweet, the Moderators don't Up Mod that tweet. Rarely do they Up Mod those tweets. There was a story about the USS Ford, about my visit to the USS Ford. About the digital catapult. And about how I said a very smart thing, I said, "let's go back to good old steam." Because it's PROVEN. Give me goddamned steam, right? I loved that story, very surprised to see it on this website. And I tweeted about my visit to the Ford, about how much money I'm saving the American taxpayer. And I used a couple of swear words, sometimes I swear a little, don't we all? Are we babies? @VP [twitter.com] Pence is like an angel, he never swears -- although, maybe angels do, who knows, nobody knows. And a Spam Modder saw that and said, "oh, -1 Spam!" And the Administrators agreed. But there were a lot of Up Modders on that one, it would have had Score, +5 something if there wasn't that Spam Mod. So many Moderators said it was a good tweet. But I lost Karma because there was a Spam Mod. So that can happen, it happened to me, it's rare. It's a rare thing.

The tweets from the VERY SPECIAL individual who's getting so many Spam Mods. Who just tweeted something about rhubarb, it's not about rhubarb, folks. Who tweets a lot about booty snaps. But doesn't even know what a booty snap is. And I thought, how dumb can someone be, to not know what a booty snap is in this age we're in, in the age of Social Media? Sad! And maybe, that guy is a bot. It could also be China, it could be someone sitting on their bed that weighs 400 pounds. It's somebody who has NO MESSAGE to get out, who only tweets because of Karma, it's called a Karma Whore. They're bad tweets, the Moderators aren't supposed to Up Mod them. Even if they wanted to. And maybe, probably, they don't want to. And if they did, probably the Administrators would have a witch hunt against those Moderators. Like they're doing against me. They say I'm a Spammer, I'm not a Spammer. I have a message to get out, it's a message against the Establishment, against the special interests. And that, to them, is Spam.

A lot of the Moderators are HATERS & LOSERS. And they're VERY DUMB. I speak the truth about Dubya, they Down Mod me. I speak the truth about Bill Clinton & Obama -- our WORST president -- they Down Mod me. I speak the truth about Crooked Hillary, about Saddam Hussein, Down Modded again and again! DUMB! So I'm sure the Moderators -- some of them -- are dumb enough to say, "oh, there's no Karma for the Anonymous Coward." They didn't say it, I'm sure they're thinking it. Because I know EXACTLY how dumb people think. Trust me, there's Karma.

This will ultimately be used for more invasive drug testing, and by health insurance companies to deny coverage and raise rates on "risky" clients.

Congrats, scientists, on your lucrative discovery!
