Tommy Refenes' life is about to change dramatically. He's turning 37 in a few days and his first child, a boy, is expected to arrive just a few weeks later. On top of this perfect storm of personal anxiety, he's preparing to launch his second major video game, Super Meat Boy Forever, later this year on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC.

Unlike in parenthood, Refenes has experience in the video game industry. He's famous in the world of independent development for his programming work on Super Meat Boy, a legendary 2010 platformer that helped usher in the modern marketplace for indie games. He's also a film star: Refenes and game designer Edmund McMillen were the focus of the 2012 documentary Indie Game: The Movie, which tracked the development and surprisingly successful launch of Super Meat Boy. The movie was a critical and commercial hit, picking up an award for documentary editing at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival.

I bought SuperMeatBoy, I think it was with a humble bundle some time back. Absolutely brilliant game. Simple, original, funny, squishy, extremely compulsive. Most levels can be beaten in a in a matter of seconds, but will find yourself coming back again and again to shave a second off your best time. I recommend everybody give it a try.

How is designing a good game winning the lottery of capitalism?

They get the money instead of the state?

Maybe it's like winning a MUD. You can't actually win, but you can get nice things and make some good memories.

This seems like a PR/Advertorial piece. "Super Meat Boy" has only 1.8 million hits on Google. I mean what next SN posts promo pieces for stuff of similar notability like "Shovel Knight"?

Are we going to flood SN with such stuff? "Sonic the Hedgehog" (also a platformer that's less famous than Mario) has 29 million hits on Google, a gene named after it and plenty of similar level promo pieces (upcoming movie apparently).

Why spread such advertising for free? Unless SN is being paid for it in which case lets have a "sponsored" color scheme for the story.

If "Super Meat Boy" counts as notable and relevant for Soylent News then how about stuff like this:
