FDA Issues Stiff Warning to E-Cig Seller who put Viagra in Vape Liquid:

The US Food and Drug Administration made clear on Thursday, October 11, that it has a major bone to pick with an electronic-cigarette vendor that illegally pumped prescription erectile dysfunction drugs into unapproved e-liquid products intended for vaping.

The cocky company, HelloCig Electronic Technology Co. Ltd, even advertised the vape liquids with labels and images using drug brand names. For instance, it sold one of the vaping liquids as "E-Cialis HelloCig E-Liquid" alongside an image of a bottle and tablets of Eli Lilly's erectile dysfunction drug Cialis. It also sold a product with the brand of an anti-obesity drug that had been pulled from the market in Europe for causing psychiatric disorders. The e-liquid really contained the erectile dysfunction drug in Viagra, the FDA found.

[...] The throbbing mad agency issued a stiff warning and firmly threatened "civil money penalties, criminal prosecution, seizure, and/or injunction" if HelloCig didn't pull its products out of the market immediately. The company has 15 days to respond.

FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb blasted the company in a statement, saying:

"There are no e-liquid products approved to contain prescription drugs or any other medications that require a doctor's supervision. Prescription drugs are carefully evaluated and labeled to reflect the risks of the medications and their potential interactions with other medicines, and vaping active drug ingredients is an ineffective route of delivery and can be dangerous. There are no e-liquids that contain prescription drugs that have been proven safe or effective through this route of administration."

The jokes almost write themselves.

    The cocky company,

So, it has come to this! [xkcd.com]

You all know, as I am well aware, that we could have had a pertinent and salient aristarchus submission, instead of this bad excuse for a pun? Not that puns are bad, but his one is. Oh, the huge manatee, in the wake of Hurricane Michael. Could not the Throbbing Member Buzzard control himself, at least until he is installed on, or into, the Supreme Court? "Pert" and "Sally" are words that go together - but neither goes with "Aristarchus". For pertinent and salient submissions, look elsewhere.

They just want that steady revenue stream. After all, where's the crazy in regular cigarettes? It's nowhere near Big Tobacco who's been churning out much the same product for the past 50 years.

It took the tobacco companies a while to figure out that vaping was going to become a thing. In the meantime an active industry of small players entered the market and succeeded. Big tobacco took notice and said, no no no, and are trying to wrestle as much back as they can. I remember meeting a rep from the makers of Camel cigarettes at a local vape shop a couple of years ago. He didn't have much of a clue and he was interested in learning the market. But, by then, a lot of players had made names for themselves.

Most hardcore vapers go for the expensive gear as opposed to the prepackaged crap you find in convenience stores. It's cheaper and two years ago there were many options available (I've been away from the vaping scene for a few years now so I don't know what the current climate is like.)

I'm glad I'm out of that whole tobacco/nicotine mess. I have plenty of other things to waste my money on that won't kill me. I did quit smoking by turning to vaping. Then, I quit vaping and haven't touched either since. It's been 5 years since I've smoked a cigarette. I don't think I could have done it without vaping so I am biased, to be sure.
