Every week there's at least one weird story to come from the gaming industry and this has to be one of the strangest at its surface level. It's hard to imagine that an entire country such as China would have a problem with a bear whose only real problem is that he has no real problems, but when you look a little deeper into Chinese President Xi Jinping and his relationship with the honey eating bear, this strange headline begins to make more sense.

You can see it. Too bad the censorship is extending to video games. The Chinese people should not be denied circuses when they are already denied politics.

I don't think the resemblance to Jinping is that strong. Pooh's body shape and color is clearly a better match to Trump. Probably his intelligence too...

Yes, BUT on the other hand on the asshole scale the Pooh is pretty much the Antitrump.

I say Trump's coloring is closer to Tigger's orange than Pooh.

Of course Tigger is much more lovable than Trump. And like Pooh, probably more intelligent too!!! (I heard that Trump has already requested the results of an IQ test for comparison.)

With the upcoming G-20 summit in Argentina, maybe we can get some photos of Trump with Xi... than compare them with Tigger and Pooh.

Perhaps the studio should license Sonic the Hedgehog to play the part of Pooh [freworld.info] in any Chinese release. Then the mod community could release a patch restoring Pooh to his rightful place in the cartooniverse.

I believe it's entirely unfair to characterize Pooh Bear as having "no real problems". You guys have never had to deal with a severe honey addiction.

He keeps refusing to go to rehab, and the last time he relapsed he was found peddling his ass at the bus station, hoping to score a quarter-jar. And when I say, "his ass", I'm not referring to Eyeore.

Yep, some leaders seem to see things that aren't there.

    Here is another one:
Communists caused the producers of the childrens show Pat & Mat to have Mat's shirt made grey instead of red, because they thought it was to made fun of communists. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pat_%26_Mat#Controversies [wikipedia.org]

It is not about Ji seeing things that are not there. On the Chinese net it became a meme to compare Ji to Pooh and it was catching on enough that the government felt they needed to crack down to maintain Ji's image.

Assuming this is reproducible, we know you can get things banned in China by creating a meme associating it with their leader. Any thoughts on how to exploit this?

Any pouty pictures of popular Chinese cartoon characters? Perhaps try to get references to an entire species banned? Maybe use gimp to get a start on banning the bull [squarespace.com]?
