Just Cause 4 Cracked a Day After Release - But it Gets Worse - TorrentFreak

The much-anticipated action-adventure game Just Cause 4 was released on December 4, protected by Denuvo. On December 5, cracking group CPY posted the game online, Denuvo defeated. While this is yet another hammer blow to the anti-tamper system, the game is currently 'enjoying' a review average of just 5/10 on Steam, which could exacerbate the problems.

[...] This long-anticipated AAA action-adventure title is the follow-up to Just Cause 3, which was also protected by Denuvo. That game was released in December 2015 but wasn’t cracked until the end of February 2017.

Compare that with Just Cause 4. The game was released on December 4, 2018 then cracked and leaked online December 5, 2018. Just Cause 3 and Just Cause 4 were both defeated by cracking group CPY, who are clearly getting very familiar with Denuvo’s technology.

[...] While having the game appear online the day after release is bad enough, another problem is raising its head. According to numerous reviewers on Steam, the game is only worthy of a ‘thumbs down’ based on complaints about graphics, gameplay, and numerous other issues.

Hitman 2’s Denuvo Protection Cracked Three Days Before Launch 26 comments

According to TorrentFreak, the long-awaiting stealth game Hitman 2 — which comes 'protected' by the latest variant of Denuvo (v5.3) — leaked online. Aside from having its protection circumvented, this happened three days before the title's official launch on November 13.

It appears that a relatively new cracking group called FCKDRM obtained a version of Hitman 2 that was only available to those who pre-ordered the game. While several groups have been chipping away at Denuvo for some time, FCKDRM is a new entrant (at least by branding) to the cracking scene. (Note: The group is not related to the FCKDRM initiative, an anti-DRM site launched by GOG.com, even though it does use the logo.)

It should be noted that the owners of Denuvo released marketing material a few months ago suggesting that even 4 days of protection (actually even hours according to them) is worth the price of their DRM. (However, no mention of -3 days.)

Gamers have only themselves to blame for gaming companies putting out crappy titles.

When a gazillion people dish-out $80 or $150 for the 'metal box version with action figure' on a game six months before it is released, what incentive is there for the company to continue to finish and polish the game? They have your money so what do they care if it's in an alpha state?

Many of the thumbs down reviews come from people that pre-ordered the game. Why anyone would dish-out $80+ on a game long BEFORE it is released is beyond me. Stop pre-ordering and gaming companies might begin to remember they need to put out quality work or they wont get your hard earned money.

what incentive is there for the company to continue to finish and polish the game

Well, they have their next planned four releases. That's waht. This is number 4 in the series, and a super quick search shows that the previous three were either good, or okay - but good enough to warrant further development. So if a company gets your money early, then runs away cackling "muahahahaaa" all the way to the bank, they lose their next planned paycheck.

It's simply not in their interest.

As for why folks buy the game six months early? If I like the previous three titles and thought they were great, I would be expecting a similar level of enjoyment from the current title. Seems only logical and to follow the pattern.

These things always have to be approached carefully. One example I like to use for being both in favor and against pre-ordering is Borderlands. BL1 was Superbe! I fully supported the idea of BL2, I actually pre-ordered it, having put in about 500 hours into BL1 in co-op with my wife. BL2 was just as good as BL1, maybe better, so felt fully vindicated in my pre-ordering of it.
The Pre-sequel however, was produced by a different group, and the difference in the game really showed. Thankfully I didn't pre-order it knowing it wasn't the same team. But it shows that you can't always trust that if Game 1 and Game 2 in a sequence were good, it doesn't automatically mean game 3 will be too.

what was wrong? I thought it was more of the same, but then I got used to the floating around and the ice weapons.

Ultimately I had no problems with the pre-sequel, except for the fact it was like a full priced DLC that had its own DLCs.

It felt like a DLC due to it coming out far too soon after BL2 came out -- it reduced my expectations accordingly as well. I can't say nothing new or groundbreaking could have been introduced into it, but it seemed very much like it was more of an attempt to fit parts of the story they cut from BL2 but overly flesh it out to the extent that it felt like an overly long DLC.

And to be honest, I dont really even remember what the DLCs were for the pre-sequel, except for the claptrap one that I want to play but don't want to pay for it. maybe some day when its on sale again.

Otherwise I agree that BL1 and BL2 were great fun and I am playing BL2 presently with the girlfriend, after I upgraded her PC with a video card capable of turning all the options on. The game supported XP, but the DX11 features didnt reveal themselves until we played it again 6 years later... (my god we're old!)

"It's simply not in their interest."

Which makes you wonder why they do it ALL the fucking time, amirite?

A little more seriously, this is actually caused imo by the gamers that forgive companies that release alpha shit as release titles simply because the company ends up flushing out the game (ie: finishing it) over the following year - assuming people buy it.

As a result of this companies feel like they can do this all the time, even if the game is literally unplayable. What do the negative reviews matter? They'll be washed away over time like with say No Man's Sky, or perhaps Ys VIII (That had an utterly shitty localization job done to the point it had to be completely redone other than a few battle grunts.).

Refusing to pre-order won't stop their shenanigans. Polished? Heck, I've seen games released unfinished, the problems minimized as just "bugs", for which they release a "patch" weeks later. That was in the days of primo $60 pricing. Got burned that way too many times. Haven't paid that kind of money for a game since the last time I got burned, in the early 2000s.

The mere fact that they're still trying DRM/copy protection shows they refuse to get it. Strikes me as reason to doubt their game creation abilities. If they're too stupid to admit that DRM does not work, how can they have the competence to make a decent game?

I think the last game I bought when it was brand new was Fallout New Vegas. I got the Collector's edition with the poker chips, cards, and comic book. Fallout 1, 2, Tactics, 3, NV, and 4 are games that I've purchased multiple times (if you count Fallout 4 and Fallout 4 VR as multiple). Fallout 3 and New Vegas on PS3 and PC, when I was into the console stuff. Fallout 1, 2, and Tactics I have my disc copies and got them on GOG. Fallout 76, won't be touching with a 10 foot pole in it's current form. I was not happy when they started selling mods for Fallout 4 and I'm definitely not in the mood to get into another microtransaction riddled Fallout game. At least Fallout Shelter was a mobile title, where 99% of things are microtransaction riddled. Which I generally avoid, but have played it some on a tablet I got for my wife. Though, definitely not spent any cash on.

I once had a computer graphics professor who felt games were a waste of time. I made the mistake of getting enthusiastic to him about the cool graphics in games, and after that I just somehow couldn't get a decent grade from him despite making the best projects in the class. I just barely finished JC3 (I prefer to call it "just cuz," for reasons that are clear if you've played it) and encountered several severe bugs that were internal logic failures, not system specific--IOW problems that everyone would encounter. For example, the game has abilities as toggleable unlockables; it was bad enough that the typical RMB "precise aim" was one, but what was worse was that enabling it would invisibly break the lock-on targeting of heat seeking missiles, which makes at least one main story mission next to impossible. Obvious bugs like that in a 3 year old game (effectively permanent) never inspire confidence in %series n+1.
IMO JC2 and 3 have a core mechanic compelling enough that it only needs refinement, whereas innovation is likely to be a step downward; the problem is that the precise composition of the core that makes it magic is bound to be lost on a whole organization, unless it is formalized and conscientiously observed.
