Taylor Swift concert used facial recognition tech to identify stalkers

You're probably used to the presence of facial recognition cameras at airports and other transport hubs, but what about at concerts? That's the step Taylor Swift's team took at her May 18th show at the Rose Bowl, in a bid to identify her stalkers. According to Rolling Stone, the camera was hidden inside a display kiosk at the event, and sent images of anyone who stopped to look at the display to a "command post" in Nashville, where they were cross-referenced with other photos of the star's known stalkers.

As the target of numerous death and rape threats, Swift arguably has a valid motivation for leveraging such technology. However, it's unclear who has ownership of the photos of her concertgoers, or how long they will remain on file. Her representatives have also not yet responded to queries as to whether fans knew about the cameras.

Taylor Swift.

Well, if it's the FBI or DHS, then they should arrest all of them for having such poor taste in music.

I think the story there is: Capture as much data as possible. If you have 2 or 3 means of identifying someone, you improve the accuracy. And maybe you have someone's face and walking style captured by one camera, and then you follow them temporally as they pass by other cameras.

What really freaked me out was that he had a $$$$ hand tooled leather notebook with all their conversations

Someone with such a notebook is a friend of mine, but she's not a stalker

What really freaked me out was when he told me he was on Obama's inner circle.

I managed to get his name number and his license plate number. I moved heaven and earth to get the cops to 5153 him, but they flatly ignored me.

A 5153 is a California Lanterman Petrie Short Act ten day involuntary hold for being a danger to oneself or others. The patient has the right to a hearing before a judge, at first an informal one in the hospital, the second a formal one in a courthouse.

(Washington only has one hearing buts its a highly formal one. In the hospital but with a court reporter, an assistant prosecuting attorney, a defense attorney, the right to subpoena witnesses and evidence. One can have a jury but if so there will be a few days' delay.)

For eons now I've been meaning to write the singers agent and the secret service. I'll do that tomorrow. Thanks SN!

Have you considered, well, sorry, MDC, I cannot recommend anything that you yourself have not theorized and fanticized and speculated: so how about, remain calm. It happens that I've been reluctant to dispose of my remaining oxycodone. Surely there will be a day that I am in pain and would not have to get a prescription. I only took a few of them.

Tomorrow I'll put them in the bin at the Portland cop shop.

She stayed at my place for the day yesterday.

First thing I managed to do was to surreptitiously put my oxycodone in my pocket, then hide is someplace where she won't find it. I'm meeting her tonight so I didn't bring it with me, but as soon as I can be certain she won't know what I'm up to I'll take it to the drug disposal at the Portland Police Bureau.

The Vancouver PD has a prescription disposal bin in its lobby.

I'm forced to confess I entertained the idea of just giving the stuff to her, as it might have even for just a day or two spared her from shooting very, very risky street drugs - she really did get sold fentanyl once, with the result that she woke up in an ambulance after the NarCaned her.

But no, for me to supply her fix even just once would established quite a dysfunctional dynamic between us.

Really the best I can hope for is to give her a safe place to sleep as well as to provide enough to eat. Even so, so only slept here just once, the other times since Sunday she's been out roaming around so as to satisfy her gnawing hunger. Each day she tells me she'll come back her to sleep but then doesn't because getting her fix turns out of be more difficult than she at first anticipated.

John Hinckley Jr. wasn't actually an Erotomaniac in that he did understand that Jody Foster didn't love him, actual Erotomaniacs are completely convinced that the objects of their affection really do.

This at times leads to kidnaping and rape but far far more commonly leads to stalking. Consider the guy who drives a van wherever Stephen King goes, which van is emblazoned with all manner written narratives, each of them asserting that "Stephen King Shot John Lennon!"
