NPR covers a recent recruitment campaign by the British military.

Are you a "binge gamer"?

An unfocused office prankster?

A "me me me millennial"?

If so, the British army wants to recruit you.

It's all part of a new advertising campaign unveiled by the U.K. Defense Ministry aimed at 16- to 25-year-olds "looking for a job with purpose," according to a statement.

In videos, radio spots and posters, the advertisements take negative stereotypes about Generation Z — and their predecessors, the notorious millennials — and rebrand them as strengths. Self-centeredness becomes "self-belief," phone obsession becomes "focus" and selfies become "confidence."

The posters are hillarious, worth a peek at the original article.

The soldier used for the "Snowflake" poster, being a tough squaddie that puts the fear of god into his enemies, was annoyed about being called a snowflake.

So he laughed about it and bought the next round of drinks.

Only kidding. He's thrown his toys out of the pram and is quitting: https://metro.co.uk/2019/01/06/soldier-quit-army-face-used-snowflake-advert-8314549/ [metro.co.uk]

So the British army is admittedly a bunch of snowflakes.

      From your link

"the derogatory term snowflake which is used to describe someone being over-emotional, easily offended or unable to deal with opposing opinions."

The irony here is that he quit the army because he was offended and was unable to deal with the consequences of what the army did.

I don't think you quite get how nasty squaddies can be...google bullying in the british army sometime and consider that's only what gets out/reported. It was a bit shitty of the Ruperts to make him a target this way, though it makes one wonder who he pissed off.

Aye, you wonder about the advisability of pissing someone off who has access to automatic weapons....oh, wait, forgot the squaddies only have access to the POS SA80s...(I'm biased, I've fond memories of the FN SLR.)

He is choosing to act like a snowflake after being used in a snowflake commercial, despite signing up for all kinds of demeaning activities as his patriotic duty as a soldier?

I don't know the specifics of the UK enlistment contract, but having comprehensively read the US Army one when I decided not to enlist, it includes at their discretion using you for all kinds of experimental medical tests, including vaccines which are not considered safe for civilian use, and any kind of duty that they feel you are suited for. While you may be allowed to choose an MO upon enlistment, they are not in any way required to actually uphold that commitment once you are signed and may discharge you for a variety of offenses, both honorable and dishonorable.

A lot of people I knew got medical discharges or even booted out of basic for not making the cut with no disciplinary issues. So this snowflake quitting over this little advertising campaign is pretty pathetic and makes him sound like a british dandy.

All armies should permit conjugal visits but only in designated places where both sign consent forms and are sober and unmarried (unless to each other).

But men and women serving together, I've been hearing a lot of super horror-stories and petty revenge tales of he-said, she-said bullshit. A lot of Navy dudes I met, who are married and totally not gay, said that allowing more and more females to serve aboard ships fucked the Navy up.

I have no idea who's idea it was, but it's obvious some PR person was like, yeah that's great! While the army guys were probably thinking, whatever works, so long as we get enough recruits. Mix a little stupid with a little apathy, and you get "Demotivational recuritment posters." https://despair.com/collections/demotivators [despair.com] The problem is, they weren't going for sarcasm.
