A 27-year-old Indian man plans to sue his parents for giving birth to him without his consent. Mumbai businessman Raphael Samuel told the BBC that it's wrong to bring children into the world because they then have to put up with lifelong suffering. Mr Samuel, of course, understands that our consent can't be sought before we are born, but insists that "it was not our decision to be born". So as we didn't ask to be born, we should be paid for the rest of our lives to live, he argues.

Mr Samuel's belief is rooted in what's called anti-natalism - a philosophy that argues that life is so full of misery that people should stop procreating immediately. This, he says, would gradually phase out humanity from the Earth and that would also be so much better for the planet.

[...] In a statement, his mother Kavita Karnad Samuel explained her response to "the recent upheaval my son has created". "I must admire my son's temerity to want to take his parents to court knowing both of us are lawyers. And if Raphael could come up with a rational explanation as to how we could have sought his consent to be born, I will accept my fault," she said.

BBC:
Indian man to sue parents for giving birth to him

Mr. Samuel's argument sounds a bit entitled but there are philosophical grounds in support of anti-natalism:
Having children is not life-affirming: it's immoral

A bit like gays, they do find ways to keep existing despite not reproducing.

But in their case the easy solution to their suffering-from-being-alive exists. And it's a lot easier to implement than a lawsuit. Oddly, they choose to inflict suffering on our brains instead.

In that first one, it wasn't a blank. The couple thought a thick book would stop the bullet.

On a related note, it appears that the prosecutor accepts that story as the truth, but for some reason figured the guilt of accidentally killing her boyfriend and the father of her child somehow isn't enough to pay for an undisputed unintentional death that he was fully complicit in. So she's going on trial and facing 10 years in prison (and bizarrely, $20,999 in fines!) because that will obviously make it all better.

It is typical of racist xenophobic trumptards like you to think that a physical barrier to culture-carriers can actually do anything to stop unwanted cultures from entering and infecting your country.

This is the age of the Internet, of instant, unblockable communication, of airwaves and satellites. Look at all the totalitarian regimes trying to prevent western culture from crossing their borders and entering their countries. See how well it works.

But, she died (RIP!!). And Mary Roe (Fake name again) changed her mind, she was very sorry she won that one. She also tried very hard to get it overturned. Until she died (RIP!!). They'll be overturned. It's going to be up to the States. And many States already have the ban. They're ready.

I believe once you get to the Age of Reason [wikipedia.org], you start to be responsible for your own well-being. Of course, many decisions are not up to you until you reach the Age of Majority, but you can stand against evil.

And I know a behavior that prevails against all demonstrations. It was taught to me by a little poet, a wonderful child, tormented by stupid and evil parents.
One day I found him crying on the stairs of his house. I held him in my arms holding my tears.
    - Oh, it doesn’t matter! - he told me - When they tell me something bad about me, I do not believe it.

The above quote is from a beautiful book by Louis Pauwels [wikipedia.org], Ce que je crois, (What I Believe) which I don’t think was translated into English but if you know French or Spanish, it is worth a read. It summarizes my attitude towards life: I am resposible for my own happiness.

Is this guy living a life of suffering? The summary claims he is a business executive and both parents are lawyers. That suggests to me he has and is doing fairly well and that he has received enough of an education and is doing well enough that his claims are rather spurious.

I don't necessarily disagree with his claim that the planet would be better off without humanity, and I believe that a basic income will eventually (perhaps sooner than later) be necessary for humanity to survive in decent conditions, but perhaps we need to include a law where people accept responsibility for themselves upon coming of age, and they accept the basic income and associated social, economic and cultural costs or drop out of society one way or another.

So, you're saying that money buys happiness

I'm reminded of a cartoon I saw 35 or more years ago. It was in some skin mag like Hustler or similar.

It shows a man and a (tarted-up) woman sitting at the bar and the woman says:
"Hi! I'm Phyllis Happiness. And yes, money can buy happiness!"

And so, you see, GP was absolutely correct -- as long as her name is 'Happiness' this week. ;)

Interesting that in the Tibetan Book of the Dead, a rather minor text in Tibetan Buddhism that for some reason attracted extraordinary attentions from the Europeans that studied Tibetan Buddhism, the point is that when you are in the Bardo, you lose your sense of knowing, and are drawn towards realms of existence that your karma allows. Now this could be the pure white light of Enlightenment, or the lesser colors, with pure and murky versions. But it you fail at all these, you visualize couples in the act of coitus, as Sheldon would say, and find yourself attracted to one particular couple, in the act of coupling, that are you parents, coupling. Never going to get that out of your head, are you? But the point is, in the Tibetan Book of the Dead, you choose your parents. So the entire lawsuit is null and void and moot. Except, Hindu? Well then it was his own fault for having such bad karma as to be re-incarnated. Christian? Which I might suspect with a name like Samuel: It is all his parents fault, oh, and God's! Thank goodness that Brett Kavanaugh did not rape his mother, or American conservatives try to affirm that every sperm is sacred. [youtube.com] And then, it is God's fucking fault. Bastard.
