Flying can be an excruciating experience these days. The CEO of United Airlines recently admitted that by the time passengers sit down on his planes, they're already "pissed at the world." But plenty of airlines have tried to make things more fun over the years, even if they were incredibly weird. So weird, in fact, that they went out of business.

not so much because of the airlines themselves, but because of the DHS' security theater. What rich people with private airplanes get is to sidestep the pervs who make you wait for 30 minutes to frisk you without a warrant - and that's when you're lucky...

Couldn't they hijack their own private jet and fly it into a building?

That would be very dumb. Very dumb. Dumb people aren't rich. And, rich people aren't dumb. Very hard for a dumb person to get rich & stay rich. Look at Osama bin Laden. Very smart cookie, comes from the bin Laden Family, one of the richest families in Saudi Arabia. They're like the Waltons of Saudi Arabia. They own the Saudi Binladin Group, HUGE Construction Company. Bigger than Halliburton. And so many people say, "oh, Osama bin Laden was behind the 7-11 attacks." But, where are the charges? No charges filed against the guy. No indictment, we call it Unindicted. But, the planes. He wasn't on those planes. And, those weren't his planes. They were somebody else's. Bad day for American, bad day for United. Bad day for so many New Yorkers. So many dieing (RIP!!). I'll tell you, 40 Wall Street actually was the second-tallest building in downtown Manhattan, and it was actually before the World Trade Center the tallest, and then when they built the World Trade Center it became known as the second-tallest, and after the attacks it became the tallest again. And I spoke to my people, and they said it was the most unbelievable sight, they were probably 7 or 8 blocks away from the World Trade Center, and yet Wall Street was littered with two feet of stone & brick & mortar & steel. While Osama bin Laden was somewhere very safe. We've spent TRILLIONS looking for him in Afghanistan. And by the way, we're still looking. That's called being very rich and very smart. You think rich people are dumb, look at Osama. U.S.A. messed with him -- once. Big regrets about that one. Big regrets. Trust me, you don't want to mess with a rich person. Because you will LOOSE very badly!!!!

Bring back short skirt and high booties stewardesses and it will be smiles all the way.
Side benefit, the feminists will boycott the airline which means no one oozing in from the seat next to you which will make it an even better experience :-)

Just speaking logically, if feminist women were the ones prone to being overweight, then the most conservative parts of the country (South & Midwest) wouldn't have the highest obesity rates [cdc.gov].

Not particularly weird, but it also failed years ago and is still remembered for its abbreviation, Belgian airline Sabena. Some passengers claimed that Sabena stood for: "such a bad experience never again".

The link given to the article... well, it loads, then the screen jumps about and it morphs into their "front page", article vanishes, all the way whining that JS is off and their tracking is now broken. Maybe gizmodo is another "bad airline" of the internet. Can we have a top-10 most broken and privacy violating websites article?

The best way to fly is not to.
High speed rail is much better for several reasons. First, you can get up and walk around, sit in the dining car or observation car, and feel like a human being with dignity. Second, there are things to look at out the window, that is, the scenery is better. Third, if you get a compartment you can sleep, study, work, etc without your neighbor's elbow in your throat. Fourth, the train takes you right into the city center, so there's no nonsense with taxis or shuttles to take you another couple hours from the airport to the hotel downtown.
Anybody who lives in Europe knows this, as do those in Japan or other civilized countries. America would be a fantastic place to travel by high speed rail, as its traffic is ferocious on the highways and in the airports and in the skies, and its scenery has got that available in most of the other parts of the world beat, hands-down.
