Strong eruption at Sheveluch volcano with ash up to 10 km (34 000 feet), pyroclastic flow produced, Russia

Russian Sheveluch volcano erupted at 23:40 UTC on October 1, 2019. The explosion produced ash plume that reached an altitude of 10 km (34 000 feet) above sea level and a pyroclastic flow that spread to the west from the active dome.

Reports said the eruption was likely a combination of lava dome explosion and collapse of fresh material from the active part of the dome in its upper NE sector.

The Aviation Color Code remains Orange, as of 04:45 UTC on October 2.

"According to satellite data, an ash plume up to 6.5 - 7.5 km a.s.l. (21 300 - 24 600 feet) continues to drift to the east from the volcano. Рrobably ash fallout on the Komandorskie Islands (Commander Islands)," the Kamchatkan Volcanic Eruption Response Team (KVERT) said.

Explosive-extrusive eruption of the volcano continues. Ash explosions up to 10 to 15 km (32 800 - 49 200 feet) a.s.l. could occur at any time. Ongoing activity could affect international and low-flying aircraft."

A strong eruption also happened on the volcano on August 29, 2019, with ash up to 10 km (34 000 feet) above sea level.

On a scale from 1 to 10, about 0. Any large city produces more emissions than such a volcano.

Citation needed. I hope you have better luck than I searching, I'm coming up empty on searches for the quantity of CO2 and other pollutants from Sheveluch. From the video and photos, I'll guesstimate that it would take a decade or more for the very largest of cities to spew the pollution that is coming from Sheveluch in a day.

            You're an idiot ffs.

Anything can be a pollutant if it causes problems for the local environment. CO2 has reached "pollutant" levels.

For a more applicable example there are historic events where CO2 was released on a massive scale and created a blanket over towns that diluted the oxygen levels to lethal levels. One example I learned from a civil engineer, a US town in a bowl valley had a big smokestack and an inversion event happened that trapped all the fumes in the valley overnight. The doc had to run around to houses with oxygen tanks trying to keep people alive.

Git educated son before you make a fool of yourself again!

          You can use this,

          https://www.forbes.com/sites/startswithabang/2017/06/06/how-much-co2-does-a-single-volcano-emit/ [forbes.com]
          http://www.carbonvisuals.com/projects/new-yorks-carbon-emissions-in-real-time [carbonvisuals.com]

In 2010 (the latest year for which data is available) New York City added 54,349,650 metric tons of carbon dioxide to the atmosphere = 148,903 tons a day = 6,204 tons an hour = 1.72 tons a second.

          I'll just quote that here,

33 measured degassing volcanoes emit a total of 60 million tons of CO2 per year.

Add all of these up, and you get an estimate of around 645 million tons of CO2 per year. Yes, there are uncertainties; yes, there's annual variation; yes, it's easy to get led astray if you think that Mt. Etna is typical, rather than the unusually large emitter of CO2 that it is. When you realize that volcanism contributes 645 million tons of CO2 per year – and it becomes clearer if you write it as 0.645 billion tons of CO2 per year – compared to humanity's 29 billion tons per year, it's overwhelmingly clear what's caused the carbon dioxide increase in Earth's atmosphere since 1750.

In fact, even if we include the rare, very large volcanic eruptions, like 1980's Mount St. Helens or 1991's Mount Pinatubo eruption, they only emitted 10 and 50 million tons of CO2 each, respectively. It would take three Mount St. Helens and one Mount Pinatubo eruption every day to equal the amount that humanity is presently emitting.

since this eruption is nowhere near even Mt. St. Helens, it's by definition has less crap coming out of it. Only 12 New Yorks dump as much CO2 as all volcanoes on this planet combined. But of course, you can say "no data on Sheveluch!!", but that's just disingenuous criticism.
